    Hey guys,

On the M860tu, I find it annoying that I have to keep connecting and disconnecting the DC wire when the battery is charged/40%.

I know I can just leave the wire plugged and the battery out, but one of the four big feet of the laptop is ON the battery.

Is there anyway from inside windows where I can set the power to take from only the wire when its plugged in and battery is fully charged?

I've looked through the power options and there doesn't seem to be one.

    Thanks for your time

Why would you want to do something like that? I leave mine plugged in all the time because from my experience from my 4 year old Toshiba, I did that and the battery kept the same charge it always has up to this day.

I'm curious to know if anyone has any actual proof that keeping the battery in while on AC power actually diminishes the life of the battery.

Im pretty sure its true deathwinger. Overcharging batteries is bad and decreases their life more quickly. I leave my battery out all the time.

To the OP, whats wrong with just taking the battery out? Even though one of the feet is on it the laptop has no problem resting normally on any flat surface without it.

    ^^ agreed.

Overcharging the battery over a long period of time will decrease the lifespan of the battery itself... and to the point of not being able to hold an accurate charge.

My notebook is about to hit 3 years.... I still have the battery as healthy as when I built it.
    - I make sure to not leave it plugged in for more than a day or two without letting discharge to under 50% and re-charging it.... in essence, giving it a charge cycle.

You can just fully charge your battery and remove it/store it somewhere cool and dry.
    - and make sure to once or twice a month to give the battery a charge cycle to keep it healthy.

In the meantime, you can directly connect your notebook to a UPS if you feel that there might be power surges or outages in your area.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Although the laptop will stay straight even without the feet the battery provides, if I don't be careful typing on the keys on the upper left side of the keyboard (where the battery is), the laptop might tilt a bit.

I am looking for a solution to remedy this.

Do you guys think it is viable to tape an index card over corner of the battery connectors and plug the battery in that way?

I plan on getting a new laptop within 3 years so I don't care I leave mine in all the time. I bought it to use it plus, my battery Bar 3.0 tells me its not charging at all when it hits 100%.
Battery Bar 3.0 is nifty, thats right I said nifty.

What gophn meant was take the battery out, and use the stack of post-its as a stand.

Why haven't laptop makers come up with a remedy for this problem?

Oh I leave my battery in! I would have thought when on the mains it wouldn't use the battery but I'm guessing this doesn't happen!
Looks like I might have to get some post-it notes!

I'm always afraid of it unplugging while the battery is out.

Until I see substantial proof that battery life decreases by leaving the battery in the laptop. I say its just an overcautious habit and will not subject myself to the inconvenience of losing all my data in the event of a power outage or a similar disruption and in the case of a m860tu, having one leg taken out.

    Ask and you shall receive.

    From the M860TU User Manual:

its not that leaving the battery in that is the problem, its the overcharging of the battery is the going to be the issue.... the battery needs to have a charge cycle a couple of times a month to keep it healthy.
