I am looking at the following build for my new system and was wondering if there is a similar setup for cheaper available anywhere else? I can downgrade cpu/gpu/ram/hd if the price is right. For the CPU I want something at least as fast as a Intel Core i7 940XM, so I was thinking maybe a used i7 D900F system, I would be fine with any of the previous gen video cards, GTX 280M etc.

Here is the current build from xotic

You can do a D900f with the GTX 280m for about $2200. It will lack the upgrade path for the 2 gpus though and the x7200 is supposed to have overclocking enabled via Intel XTU. It will also have the better power supply and nice things like an LED screen (albeit 16:9)

Thanks for the info, the overclocking may be worth it alone, I wasn't aware of that.

Reports from vendors is that you can fully overclock non extreme processors as well (just no multiplier options obviously)

Does anyone have any info on the 470m and 460m and if they will be available in a Sager NP7280?

A couple resellers offer the GTX 460m but there has been 0 news on the GTX 470m except that it exists
