Am I a fool for thinking this?

    Hello, howdy, salutations, hi.

I am one of what I think I can reasonably speculate as many forum-goers who are eagerly awaiting the release of the NP5796 tonight. I've gone through various configurations of the NP5793 and would be extremely happy to have a 2.5 Ghz, 8800m GTX, Vista Ultimate, 4GB memory, 200GB 7200RPM HDD, 1920 x 1200 display for about $2500. (Pause for breath  ).

I'll try to keep this short. The pricing of PCMW is scaring the living sh*t out of me. Suddenly Centrino 2 just shot the pricing of a similarly configured laptop up $500. I'm not asking for pricing ahead of time -who the heck would given the short wait? What I really need about now is someone to tell me I am a complete and utter fool for getting all worked up about this; that the $2500 laptop I may be purchasing tonight will be undoubtedly superior to yesterday's $2500 NP5793.

Should I be kicking myself in the ass for not taking PCMW up on their July 4th $500 off sale? To the technologically enlightened ones out there: Thank you for putting up with my potential idiocy; feel free to tell me I'm wrong here! I hope I am!

PS: Will Intel's planed CPU price cuts scheduled for later this month have any effect on the pricing of this system?

Maybe , the cpu in terms of power and superiority is pretty much the same. The only difference is lower power consumption. The ddr3 ram is an improvement but something not deal breaking or even very noticeable for that matter. The HDMI and E-sata are personal preferences that you have to decide. But in terms of performance there is maybe a 2-3% increase. the GPUS will also probably be upgradeable as they use the MXM format

Given that I probably won't be able to find the NP5793 anymore, I am forced to speculate what $2500 will do on a NP5796...

Less than an hour left and the anticipation is killing me. I just can't afford $3000..

you missed an awesome opportunity on july 4th sale where they gave so many upgrades for free or half the cost..

Just wait it out for Montevina (not a revolution in upgrade but every bit helps)

If my memory serves me, PCMW was dishing out a reasonably configured 5796 for ~$2500.

I take it the performance increase from 5k to 7k is negligible then?

5k to 7k is noticeable, but the density of 320GB make that up.
