    Hi! guys,

I browsed through forum, looks like older version and new version of GPU-Z give different count of shaders.

Alienware M17x r3 with amd 6990m, it showed only 896 unified shaders. I am interested to know if Sager amd 6990m give the same number of shaders under GPU-z ver. 0.5.5. since they are basically the same card.

    Thank you.

Strange, since Sager can detect correctly, how come m17x r3 can not get the same number displayed.

Thanks a lot for the info. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

don't worry i have a Clevo one myself and it detects only 896 too, dunno if its only a bug but like you said 0.5.4 says 1120 Shaders

It is weird that it is only happening to certain users. Could it be due to a difference in drivers that different users are getting different results?

bbs1234 and Scerate seem to have the same driver version. The Texture fillrate is also different.

    Hmmm...

My laptop arrived yesterday. It is with my sister in Australia while I am in Malaysia now. My sister can not even switch to amd 6990m at the moment. Stuck at intel Gpu. May be wrong steps, tonight gonna ipad her again and see whether it work. Pretty confusing. It should have the latest driver since it just arrived.

I check on the shaders because I want to make sure dell gave me the correct part I ordered.

In China dell alienware forum, a guy got the wrong card, and customer care were not helping. kept asking him to wait until investigation finish. In the end, He could not even get full refund after he decided to return it, because 2 months passed. The complaint was made initially 1 or 2 weeks after received the laptop. Until someone gave him the email of top level management personnel in China dell. Then full refund was given in 3 days.

Sometime, we as consumer really need to go directly to higher level of management in order to get thing sorted out.

This is the same case of some alienware member, they said may be software not recognising. But how come some other are getting correct shaders.

Do not tell me there are 2 version of amd 6990m.. one is real and other is between 6970 and 6990m. A hybrid??

Very confusing. Hope can sort it out soon, and I can get some good sleep without worry it.

I think this is a bug with GPU-Z.

    AMD Radeon? HD 6990M Graphics

If the clocks are the same then the one with 896 shaders would be slower, but I bet it performs just as well.

It could be, but I do not dare to ask my sister to install other driver, she is not good in computer knowledge. It is quite difficult to give accurate detail instruction since I am also not familiar with this laptop.

And if I want to return or exchange the lappy, it has better to be done in Australia. It would be difficult after my sister bring it back to me at the end of the month.

So ...headache.... hopefully tonight can sort out the gpu switching and get the correct shaders.

So it would not be actually a AMD 6970m with 6990m bios and with a wrong sticker- Amd 6990m on it.

Recently, Dell manufacturing plant had shifted from Malaysia to China. Everything is still new to those technician/engineer. Not really having high confident in them.

Is there other way to determine the card except looking at number of shaders?

as long as you get the correct score in a benchmark assume the detection software is wrong.

which is a graphics score of:
    3DM11: 3250~
    Vantage: 14000-15000

please note I said graphics score not overall score.

srry for late reply but i get about ~4k points 3dmark11 with OC to 800/1050 oh and now it says 1120 in GPU-Z.

It's weird but with GPU-Z (non-ROG-Version) the shaders are count normally so it's definitely a software bug

Thank you everybody, after giving accurate instruction to my sister, step by step, finally I see 1120 unified shaders. And I also check through the spec, it should be the correct spec.

The 3d mark 11 will be done on another day, I spent almost an hour asking my sister to test graphic card, dvd, usb port, install avast and comodo.

    Thanks again, everyone.

    Cheers.
