    why would you want that?

It would not make any significant difference... since the system is already well designed for the devices you already have in there.

One fan/heatsink per videocard is standard for D901C.

If you want more cooling, get a Zalman ZM-NC2000... which will cool the entire bottom of the notebook.

They usually do not have fans for all notebooks to my knowledge.

By using a notebook cooler, the bottom would be cooler, which would help the HDDs too.

I have two HDDs and they are cooler when I am using my Zalman.

Although to make them cooler, I remove the panel on the bottom and let the Zalman cool them directly. :D

... but that was for testing only... I do not normally use my notebook with panels opened.

I am traveling from time to time and I can not take by zalman with me. When I use it at max for long time something gets very warm near the processor and it starts to beep. I have some smalls legs thatt lift the upper part, but it does not seem to be enough. I was thinking that an extra fan would hincrease the air circulation.

I hope you are not using it on your lap or soft surface (bed, couch, etc..).

It must be used on a clean, hard, surface.

For traveling, I bring around my portable Vantec LapCool4 that folds up quite nice. It can even be used on my lap and not block the vents.

This is one of the coolest running systems on the market... it would not overheat unless if someone was careless enough to block the fan vents on the bottom.

@pasoleatis: Do you monitor your temps? How much does it get to?

@Gophn and others:My HDD is the bit hot even without the cover :(.320GB WD 5400rpm 44 idle (in battery slot,no battery)when the 120GB Fujitsu 5400rpm run @35.

that temp for HDD is fine Rambo.

when it floats past 60C and stays there during the entire usage time, then I would get worried.

Check your KBC firmware first and update it - that seems to be a problem with a number of D901Cs.

The last person I know of who was putting some serious thought into this was Rambo29, although I think he may have concluded that it was too technical to DIY - you might pm him to see if he's had any further thoughts.

If you have a single drive it should be do-able. There is plenty of space for a fan in there. Problems will lie in getting power to it. Might have to have some knowledge in electricity to get the proper current to it - since you will have to tie off from an existing wire or existing pin on the MB.

I'm working on making a fan that would replace the battery - since I have 3 HD's I have no other space, and the battery is pretty much worthless anyway ;)

That sounds like a pretty decent idea, particularly since your setup would be adjacent to the power feed used to keep the battery charged, it might be possible to set up a small capacitor arrangement to, in effect, take the place of the full battery, and then draw off the capacitor to feed power to the fan. Make it modular, and you should be able to swap it out if you need to take the battery along for some reason.

I was thinking of putting a pretty big fan in there, so I was going to check the power consumption vs a USB port, if its too great then it will be plugged into the wall. I only use it plugged in anyway so thats the way I may go, just not to draw any more power from the 9262. It uses enough as is ;)

The plan is to make it screw out, just like the battery does, and can be replaced on the go as needed.

First I need to try to find if Sager makes a plastic cover for that area... If not I will make a mold and make one myself ;)

    Hi
I haven't given up on this but lack of time is holding me back.I was looking for a very thin fan to put on the HDD but it had less than 1 cfm making it barely useful. The other method as said by k-tron was to replace the existing fans with more powerful ones. This is easier and he said it reduces temps. If u have the spare slot of 8800in 9262,just add a fan which can blow to the HDD area.

Replacement with more powerful fans will cost you a few houndred dollars, make no mistake, but they will cool the system even more.

That was my original question. Any advices how I could do that? Do I have to buy a video card heat sink or just try a fan?

Funny, I followed back on the manufacturer's product webpage link from the Newegg webpage link you posted, did a little poking around on the manufacturer's (actually, it's just the distributor, I couldn't find the mfr) website, and came across an add-on hard drive fan, the Jetta Tech TT-1000:

Will this fit on the HDD on Sager 9262 and still be able to close the cover. The free space is only about 6mm from top of HDD to cover.

    Edit:it's too big.

In which case you might consider modding the back plate and add feet to the 9262 :)
That also will give it better airflow.
