As the title states, any of the new 2.5" 10000 rpm drives compatible with the M570ru. I was thinking since the size for these available in 2.5 they would fit from size standpoint.
Are there issues with the interface or the heating/cooling aspect that keep the from being offered in these laptops?
-
they exist in SCSI and SATA... however they cannot be housed in a notebook due to the heat/power constraints.
they are only made for slim line desktop workstations/servers. -
Thanks Gophn. I was wondering why they never appeared in laptop format since the sizes of the drives were 2.5 inches. Good to know.

i think that they would catch on fire first before they fail lol
but why not get 7200 rpms -
already have a 7200 rpm one. I thought I saw an article where they bringing out a 7200 rpm 320gb drive too.
Also there was another article on a 10000 rpm drive recently that had a special cooling enclosure so maybe its possible to use in a laptop. -

-
Well I for one don't want my hard drive to cost more than my laptop ... and my desktop put together! lol! Other than that it would be great if its coming out soon.

I estimate it will cost roughly 100 billion dollars. -
LOL!!! I think I could replace my BMW with the cost of one at least. Sheesh. I think the 64 gb one go for like $700. Im guessing $3000 plus for 320gb one? Whaddya guys think?

That's good news because that's exactly the amount of money I keep hidden under my mattress!

Would this be the western digital velociraptor? if so the enclosure makes it fit into a 3.5" bay so it definately would not fit into a laptop.
On another note, the server size 2.5" drives are 15mm tall and the notebook 2.5" drives are 9.5mm tall (12mm for some of the 500gb, but they will only fit in specific models - the d900c i think will take them) so in general, server 2.5" ≠ notebook 2.5" -
Yeah I think I was thinking of the velacaoraptor. Too bad -- I would love a 10000 rpm drive in the laptop -- anyone have a suggestion for something better than the 200gb 16mb cache 7200 rpm hitachi models for a laptop?
