So I've had a couple hiccups since getting the system last week. Immediately noticed RAM usage was extremely high running at 18 - 20GB/32GB used when idle. I was able to fix this so far but had to disable superfetch and a couple other things, system now idles between 2GB - 4GB.
2nd issue I've experienced is game downloads freezing my PC, i tried to download GOW4 from the windows store it would download about 50-60GB then the system would freeze up and auto reboot itself, I thought this was perhaps a windows store issue. But then I decided to download Witcher 3 on steam, got to about 80% done and wham, system lock up. This prompted me to upgrade the KillerInternet Ethernet drivers, and I haven't tried downloading anything that big since I updated them so I don't know if that fixed it.
I contacted XOTICPC Over a week ago regarding the RAM issue via email (was told i would hear a response in 24-48 hours) as suggested by the gentleman I spoke with (Matt) he even gave me an email to their in house guy that he deemed as the "Sager Guy" (Eric). I emailed them, and have yet to hear back.

Killer WLAN Driver v12.0.0.279/BT v10.0.0.279
Regarding the RAM usage, that is normal, let Windows 10 do what it's supposed to do, it is caching your most used stuff in the RAM so they are readily available if you launch any of those apps that are cached. I wouldn't mess with how the operating system is meant to be used unless you were a person with like 4GB of RAM which you aren't.
The more RAM you give Windows 10, the more it will use, and the better the performance would be. -
Back to Killer, it took me a few installs to get it to install right, sometimes it would install the wifi and not the ethernet ports etc lol.. i messed with this for about 30 minutes and i think i got it to install correctly. I'll have to download a big game soon and see if it freezes up the PC again, if so i'll do exactly as you recommended. They just updated their drivers on the 16th I believe which is when i made the upgrade since i was having issues. -

Let it use what it wants. Here's a new flash for you, when something DOES require more RAM that you*think* you don't have, the OS will release some of the cached RAM to make free RAM available to that app. Let it operate as it should bro.
Secondly, the links that I gave you above for the drivers ARE the latest ones
Once you get rid of the Killer Suite, half your issues should go away
If you still get disconnections, then see how other users report that the Killer cards disable themselves when under heavy load (such as downloading a game) See: http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19658353. I experienced that with my Killer AC 1535 as well and was so sick of it, everytime I would launch multiple downloads at the same time ( I mean many downloads really), my WLAN disables itself or disconnects until I reboot. That's why I upgraded to the new Intel AC 8265 and all my troubles went away: Just upgraded to an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 -
ok cool, i have a good intel wireless was just hoping to stay hardlined via the LAN. When i say it would freeze the system i mean like windows and everything was locked up. Can't click anything or do much of anything until I hard reboot the system by holding down the power button. Appreciate all your knowledge man. I'll do as you say when i get home from work and run some more tests (downloads etc)

We need to run HWINFO and AIDA64 to ensure your CPU is not overheating
Let me know when you're home if you want me to connect to you via TeamViewer and have a look at what's going on -
Sure man, I don't think its the CPU over heating , but we can check, wouldn't hurt. i dont get home until about 6pm PST (not sure you're located). Not familiar with HWNFO and AIDA64.
It's like this, I went to download GOW4 from windows store (its about a 80GB game) it'll download a good chunk of the game and then the PC will lock up like frozen completely and auto restart itself. When i tried it on Witcher 3 via Steam it downloaded a good chunk again and then the same thing happened but didn't auto reboot, i was forced to hold the power button down. -

See: Gears Of War 4 creating problems in overclock of EVOC P775DM3-G
Whenever he launched the game, his CPU clocks would dip down to half and cause havoc on his system so it might not be your machine after all -
Yeah originally I chalked it up to the Microsoft store just being garbage, but then when it happened on steam as well I thought something else is going on.

SO a little update, i changed my settings on Superfetch and Timebroker back to how they were at the recommendation of @Phoenix. I'm currently going to download a couple games to test the system freeze after the Killernetwork driver updates. Currently installing Fallout 4, then something larger. I will update when I get done.

So just a quick Update... Killer Network drivers must have fixed the issue with downloads, Fallout 4 and HITMAN both downloaded flawlessly with no Freeze to the PC. CPU Temps were between 50C and 70C.

yesterday, a friend of mine complained to me that he internet is laggy and slow.
So I logged into his system using TeamViewer and guess what? he had the Killer Software, it has set all his apps to priority 4 (below medium) except for Steam and Origin. so then we started setting all the apps to priority 1 to give them full bandwidth, then we noticed there are too many apps and we got bored. Next, we uninstalled the Killer Software Suite and just installed the drivers manually. He was amazed how snappy his internet became, he told me it's like you just upgraded my bandwidth by double! He couldn't be happier! I feel sorry for people who are using that piece of junk app that's throttling most their apps.
When I use an app, I want it to have full bandwidth, period. It's not like we're on dial up or old DSL connections, most of us have super fast connections and we want to use it to the max. -
hey @Phoenix... Had a new problem arise. I was playing overwatch today for about 4 hours. During a match my screen randomly went black and the PC rebooted itself.. in this the CPU overheating? My fans are on automatic, should i be playing with them on overclock or something? (i haven't overclocked anything)
-
i downloaded hwinfo this is what shows, but this is at idle.
Here's after playing Overwatch for about 30-40 minutes... i have the sensor thing on, i think that tracks it?

Did you look in event viewer for any errors after the restart?
-
@Meaker@Sager where exactly would i look in the event viewer?
i found these in event viewer, not sure if its what you would need
i have no idea what these mean.. I'm almost wondering if its PSU problem, Personally i think the PSU that comes with the PC might be a bit weak.
Found out the two red errors where from MS Edge, which i used for half a second.
The Critical Kernel Power says this:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

@Meaker@Sager This has happened mutiple times apparently, and i think it links back to the original issue i mentioned i was having before when trying to download big files and it freezing and locking up... This is the first time it happened in a game.
These all seemed to pop up around the same time

Im heading to bed, but heres after about 30 minutes of running Elderscrolls online. Ill get a longer one tomorrow. If the GPU is overhearting im thinking the automatic setting is a bad choice? Since it doesn't seem to recognize the heating and doesn't crank the fans up enough. When I ran a quick test using the "Overclock" Fan setting the highest the max got was 61C .. of course the fans were a bit louder, but still not as loud as maximum.
@Phoenix I'll try to be up bro, I'm just now getting to bed :/Last edited: Nov 26, 2016 -

@TomJGX so what can i do? return the laptop?

My laptop has IC Diamond on the CPU + 2 GPUs using the X Cross methods and the temps are very good, max of 75C on the GPU when running Fire Strike:
-
@Phoenix I don't have any Thermal Paste (I thought XOTICPC/Sager) included some in the box, but they didnt, last time i tried to apply past on my old laptop the damn gpu wigged out.
How hard is it to get to the GPU in these things? -

Well ill email Matt and Eric from XOTIC again. Unless this is something Sager can help with directly? Any contacts?

i know, i'm referring to the email i sent them back on November 14th, when i was directed to do so by someone at XOTIC, when i first started having problems, they never responded.

As for repasting, doesn't look that difficult.. Its just one of those things you have to learn to maintain these notebooks.. Otherwise you'll have a lot of hassle without having it for a week or 2 for a 30 min job..

i guess i could order some thermal paste, MX4 has good reviews. Just last computer i tried to do it and some reason afterwards the pc wouldn't turn on and i had to send it in anyway.
*Edit* I just ordered some paste, should be here Wednesday.Last edited: Nov 27, 2016 -
GeLid GC Extreme is much better and doesn't cost much either.
Mx-4 just cant keep up with these systems. -

So my laptop was sent back for RMA due to heating issues, arrived there 12/29. CPU temps peaked at 96c and GPU peaked 92/93c. Playing Overwatch. Hopefully they can fix it.

The paste should not need replacing for a while. Being able to take the cover off and then fans off will let you dust the heatsink fins which will help a lot.
-
I made sure to put a letter in the box, telling them what all i did to try to fix the problem, i worked with xotic and sager staff to update the bios, repaste, etc and i left a folder on the desktop with all the temp screen shots i took showing the high temps on cpu and gpu, also some of the sensors that said "distance to core" or something like that were at 6c or lower and showed up as red number in hwinfo.. definitely something going on with the hardware imo. -
The heatsink was probably a fail from the factory.. Well known problem that QC on Clevo heatsinks is **** in the factory so even those that shouldnt get through do so... You can try fixing the problem by using thermal pads to adjust the level of everything but yours looks like its too deformed.. Demand a heatsink replacement for sure too..

@Meaker@Sager is this something they will catch in the RMA or do I need to find a way to bring it to their attention? Let me know, I'm assuming the @Sager means you work for them?

Yes it does (see the tag below my name)

@Meaker@Sager So, i just got notified today you guys have shipped my laptop back, from what i was told was "we have found the GTX 1080 GPU caused the BSODs" I was never getting BSODS, I was getting random crash restarts while gaming and high temps. When i asked about the CPU and high temps i was told "the CPU did not reach those temps in our tests" even though i had screen shots for them and everything. I have a bad feeling it wasn't "tested" correctly. What happens if i get the PC back and still experience these issues?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If you are still having issues then let support know and send me what you have found too please. -
@Meaker@Sager Will do, the tracking says it'll be back today. So i'll get some testing in this week
-

If something is still up I would go through xotic first unless they advise you otherwise, I would not like to interfere with their tracking but still let me know too.

Wow, how did I miss this thread completely. I'm sorry about that. Didn't get notified when I was tagged in either, will have to check the specs.
Yes, if there is anything I can do to help, feel free to reach out to me directly either through PM or email. -
@pat@XOTICPC @Meaker@Sager So interesting testing tonight after getting it back, I ran some Final Fantasy Online... no issues there. So decided to go back to the problem game, OVERWATCH. Ran Overwatch as i normally do with my
Cooler Master NotePal X3 - Gaming Laptop Cooling Pad.. Experienced the same problems. CPU cores going up towards 96c and some (Distance to TjMAX going really low in temps causing it to turn red in HWINFO). Allen from Sager said they didn't experience these temps in their tests. So i was thinking, we'll whats different that im doing... The COOLER. SO i took it off, ran a game of Overwatch again. CPU Temps seemed normal, GPU still up in the low 90c's. So maybe the problem is the cooler. I will continue to run the Laptop without the cooler under it to see what sort of temps I maintain.
If either of you have a recommendation on coolers with this thing, please let me know. -
Any 9873-S (from XOTICPC) owners experience these issues?
