Instead of asking what laptop to get, I'm asking why I shouldn't get this one?
    EUROCOM M4 13.3" Gaming Laptop-Black/Gray (Intel Core i5-4210M/500GB HDD/8GB RAM/Windows 8)-English : Gaming Laptops - Best Buy Canada

For reference I'm looking for a cheaper ~$1200 laptop for school but I also want to game in my breaks between classes as well as use it for potential LAN parties. Mostly for school though.

I'm also questioning if I should even have a gaming laptop while I'm in 3rd year+ uni...

I would not buy from Eurocom personally, you can read the scores of negative reviews in the reseller feedback forum, including one from me.

Are you referring to eurocom as the distributor or the brand that this clevo is under?

eurocom w230ss on my desk, config in sig.
I've had a mite of troubles with it, such as an annoying touchpad driver that disabled my whole keyboard when i uninstalled it (still worked in safe mode, restored and the updated and now it works properly).
A bit of troubles when switching audio output devices in windows 8.1, hack-fixed by muting/unmuting the device in the volume mixer after each switch (and then audio works properly).
Other than that, a truly wonderful machine. I love it.

Eurocom the distributor. Laptop itself is fine.

Nothing is bad about it. I was even considering it myself, except that I needed quite a bit more GPU power, so I got myself a P150SM instead.

I have that lappie with a 4810MQ and my opinion is it's great. The negatives are the touchpad like everyone says. The other thing I'd say is that laptop is NOT a laptop. It's a laptop if you want to go sterile. Cooling pad or table. Don't even try to game on your lap.

Its been a really popular model for people looking for a smaller size computer which is mainly students. One of the few that use Nvidia's Maxwell core so it will do pretty well on your gaming breaks.

4810MQ isn't worth the money. It offers no more than 5% performance gain to 4710/4700 after overclocking and undervolting. Even the stock turbo-boost 3.8GHz cannot be kept reliably no matter what you do.

The laptop in question has an i5-4210M, where did 4810MQ come from?

And 3.8GHz is single core turbo only, across all 4 cores it's 3.6GHz.

    I was replying to tollingalong.

3.8GHz is the original setting, the CPU is by default unlockable like other high-end CPUs. You can change single-core turbo boost to 4.2GHz in Intel XTU, except it could never touch that for more than 1 second in stress test, not even 4GHz.

Did you up the current and TDP limit? And with a 13.3" running a single fan, you'll likely run out of thermal headspace very very fast.
