Any ideas why my wireless device isn't working or isn't recognised?

I've booted straight from the box and the wireless device isn't showing in the device manager, yet the Intel wireless program is loaded on the computer and is showing in the control panel. Also, the wireless toggle can be toggled off and on with the Fn + F11...

I assume the drivers were loaded for everything by Kobalt so it can run straight out of the box? I'm having trouble connecting to wireless so I can start installing the things I need on this laptop. I can't use the LAN as that is all hooked up to my desktop and I managed setting up wireless okay on my last laptop. here isn't a connection wizard on this.. so I assume this has been removed by Kobalt... :S

If anybody knows what wireless card is in the Nexus and what drivers to grab online... let me know so I can surf for them from this desktop and put them on a usb stick or something.

it should be on the disc, that the same problem i had with my 9262, i oculdnt find the drivers i had to look under "options" i THINK but yeah if it came with a disc it should be on there
and i dont think they install all the drivers, i think you have to.

I tried installing the LAN drivers on their disc but it says the wireless has to be enabled for them to install. They are enabled. And yet it won't install. :(

That's what's not installing. It keeps telling me that they aren't activated and need to be activated to install the drivers!!

EDIT: I get a pop up that says the following when I try to install the drivers: "Device was not found or please enable it before installing its driver!!"

I assume it is enabled when I press Fn + F11 so that the wireless is on? Well, it isn't making a difference.

hit function + F11 to make sure the radio is enabled....and bluetooth activation is fn + f12 if you have an issue with that, g/l

After you press fn+f11, check Device manager to see if you have any unknown devices. If you do not, then press fn+11 again. If nothing still appears then I would give Kobalt a call and see if they know what might be going on.

I had the same problem with my Clevo D901C (Comanche). It was indeed simple: the card wasn't even installed!

Get in touch with Kobalt, their aftersales is excellent.

I was hoping that might be the case. Would it void my warranty if I were to open it up just to reseat it or check if it's there though?

I told you I had exactly the same problem and I couldn't sort it out installing from the CD. The best I could do with the cd was to make the wireless apear in device manager with a yellow exclamation. I'm still not sure what caused the problem in my case since it solved but I'm pretty sure what you are seeing is a driver issue. Did you try contacting Kobalt already? They'll know for sure how to sort that out.

Make sure the card's actually in there first I guess.

And no, your warranty is not voided; people have answered this question in other threads for you ;)

The card is in there and the connection is secure at both ends. However, some people with the same model seem to have the 5300 card, but I have the 4965. Should I have the same as everyone else? Is there a reason I don't have a 5300? Is the 5300 better?

The 5300's the top of the line wifi card now; the 5100's the standard one. I can't find release dates for the 4965, but it has less features, yeah. Sager seems to be the only one using the 5300 standard in these notebooks.

the 4965 was replaced by the 5300 its pretty much a equal card just doesnt qualify for "centrino 2" title still a great card and i use them in all my notebook with 0 issues. try this driver instead for the 4965: http://rapidshare.com/files/152267272/V12.0.0.82.rar this was upped by me personally so it is 100% safe for you to use. and i promise it will work with that card
