I was curious if anyone has seen any news on upcoming laptops from Clevo? I've been checking the usual Cebit coverage sites and it doesn't appear to be any info on them. I was hoping they would have something with USB 3.0 and possibly new video cards (5870 or 3 series Nvidia.)
-
They aren`t even giving us any info on the desktop GTX 480. Nvidia sucks.
-
Yeah, Cebit has been a tad disappointing this year. I am on the fence about pulling the trigger on an 870CU but just know the second I do new Clevo models will be announced.
Ah the joys of waiting
FYI, RJTech has updated their site to where the 5870 is no longer pre-order when selected. I wonder if they are in stock now? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
RJTech has been ready with the MR 5870 since they put it up for preorder. They are ready to ship out.
-
Soviet, you heard any news on the GPU side, specially for X8100? Or mabye which day they might be announcing any news regarding Clevo?
-
Pm sent Soviet. Have a question for you since I am trying to order today.
-
Can Soviet or anyone else tell me if theres any cons to getting one thru rjtech since its a clevo and not a Sager? Is it just less support? as it was explained to me, all support is via rjtech and not sager.....thinking about pulling the trigger on the rjtech clevo model since sager hasent officially announced it and none of the vendors have them
-
Sager has always been good to me, but I've been reading some dissatisfied customer stories the past couple of days. RJTech looks to have a 15 day window to return but a 15% restocking fee.
Which model you looking at going with? I can't decide between the 860 or 870CU
-
RJTech
Sager
Pro-Star
All of these get their machines directly from Clevo. Sager has the worst customer support of the bunch, by ten miles. -
Should be able to pick up usb 3.0 through expresscard... I would imagine the 5870 is just a bios flash away from support... it is a standard mxm 3.0b correct?
heres hoping for a d900f with i7 980x usb 3.0 and an ati 5870 mobile card
cebit sucks so far... although im liking some of the MSI offerings... and with -
@trey, so rjtech would be a safe bet, they'll back it well? I dont really want to wait another month for sager retailers to get the. Also anyone know why all the resellers like pctoque and xotic get all their stuff from sager and not pro-star or rj, i mean they are all dealer that work directly with clevo...why is only one reselling?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I'm going to paraphrase the PM discussion I had with rancid.
The only difference between a Sager warranty (inclusive of the reseller warranty from XoticPC, PowerNotebooks, and PCTorque) and RJTech's warranty is the 30 day no questions asked refund and the restocking fee as you mentioned. RJTech's return policy is 15 days from the invoice date (their ship out date) for a refund. But other than that, you can pretty much do whatever you want with this machine short of throwing it off a cliff and still stay within warranty. For repairs, I think both Sager and RJTech both offer free return shipping. You still have to pay for shipping it to them though. If you want an extended warranty, it might be better to go with Sager as RJTech's extended warranty is contracted through a 3rd party company infamously known at RepairMaster. To put it directly, RepairMaster sucks. I don't know why RJTech contracts extended warranties through them. But RJTech handles their own warranty labor and repair far better than Sager.
This is just a summary of the points that I find most important between the two warranties. But I suggest you read both of their warranties as that responsibility is on your shoulders. -
In general, how far behind is Sager with releasing new tech than Clevo? Ive talked to a few Sager dealers and they arent sure they are even getting the new ati card.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Sager and it's resellers are obviously not going to tell you when they anticipate another product coming out. They know it's coming soon, and they are probably going to wait until the end of CeBIT. You're looking at a week at most.
-
ah, i just pulled the trigger on one at rjtech, hope all goes well with them....with over night shipping and CA taxes, 2400.00, i guess i could have saved 210.00 if i had done the shiping thing to avoid tax, but o well. Heres what i ordered if anyone cares.
Clevo W860CU
1920x1080
5870 1GB GDDR5
6 gig memory
500gig 7200 HD
Core i7-820QM Mobile CPU, 1.73Ghz -
great decision. sager customer support sucks and is the worst service i've ever had.
if i pull the trigger on a future clevo, that would be trough rjtech thanks to soviets advices. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Is there a reason why you chose overnight shipping? We both live in the same shipping zone as RJTech. UPS Ground shipping is going to take two days at most.
Memory from RJTech is also a bit expensive. That's a lot of unnecessary money spent. You can buy a 4GB stick and a 2GB stick elsewhere for cheaper. -
I thought they were in socal. Reason for the exta on shipping is im only at my shipping address 2 days a week, on the road the rest, so i wanted to make sure i got it on time, but ya maybe that was a bad idea. And in reg to the memory, i didnt want to deal with it finding and putting more in.
-
I just bought one a Clevo W860 with the ATI from RJTech as well this morning. If I had known the extended warranty from RepairMaster was bad then I wouldn't have ordered it but I wanted peace of mind that this laptop would be covered for 3 years.
Soviet, do you know if the first year of the warranty will be covered by RJTech, and the last 2 from RepairMaster. And how bad is RepairMaster? Do they not honor the warranty or are they just really cheap when it comes to fixing notebooks? Thanks. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Correct, RJTech is located in Southern California in Diamond Bar. All of California is within the same shipping zone for UPS so it doesn't really matter where as shipping is going to come really fast anyway.
I see. When it comes in one piece, it will be ready for you. An 820QM will eat WoW alive. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Everything is covered by RJTech in the first year. If you buy an extended warranty for a total of three years of coverage, RJTech will cover the first year, and the secondary and tertiary year will be covered by RepairMaster.
If you want a horror story for RepairMaster, ask K-TRON. He has had the most experience with that company out of everyone I know that has dealt with them. But pretty much everyone that had some sort of electronics product sent to RepairMaster did not end up happy.
You can still make adjustments to your order as long as they have not shipped it out yet. My biggest suggestion is that you drop the extended warranty with RepairMaster and just go with the standard one year warranty. You'll thank me in two to three years time if your notebook goes bad then. -
woot! Hope it plays all my games well, total war, CS etc.
-
You should have no problems at all with that setup.
Congrats bro
-
im excited....i have the bestbuy asus g51 right now with the 260GTX which is awesome for the 1k i spent on it....but my gamer girlfriend wants it so i had to upgrade myself!
-
Thanks. I just emailed RJTech and asked them to refund the extra money I spent on RepairMaster. Are there any reputable 3rd party warranty providers that I can use instead?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
No. Any repairs or replacements you need to have done on the notebook when the warranty expires will have to be charged for. RJTech will do it for you but you will pay labor parts and shipping. You can also send it to the other authorized Clevo repair companies such as Sager, but they too will charge you. This is why notebooks bought from RJTech are reserved for users that know how to diagnose and repair their stuff on their own. Otherwise, buying a notebook from Sager for their warranty would have been a better choice. However, if you look at it this way, your warranty is only good if you actually put it to use. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5442579&postcount=28

Just pulled the trigger on an i7-820qm, 8gb of memory, and an intel wifi 6300. Now to decide on a 860 or 870CU, arg decisions..
-
Ok. Thanks. I figure if a problem were to show up, then it would most likely happen in the first year. I've heard good things about the Clevos, hence why I went that route instead of the HPs etc...
-
I have heard good things about squaretrade but haven't used them myself.
I would say just go with the 1 year warranty. If something does go wrong it usually happens within the first year.
Or, you can sell the system at the end of the 1 year and upgrade to whatever new system is out. Rinse and repeat (what I usually do). -
I used a American Express card, so they will cover an additional year.
-
Any news about clevo fighting alienware with a backlit keyboard and a m11x competitor?
-
Where is Clevo at CeBIT ???
They have kept us waiting till the event, but not heard any new model from them till now
-
I really was expecting a new 15.6" from them at least, wonder if they are waiting on Nvidia's new cards.
-
Soviet, you heard any news on the GPU side, specially for X8100? Or mabye which day they might be announcing any news regarding Clevo's and new GPUs (GTX 380M/HD5870)?
-
From Clevo's site:
Whether "present" means introduce or exhibit is another matter. -
I'd take a press release at this point
-
Maybe ill goto Cebit and see what they now. But not sure....
-
That would be awesome. I have a feeling they either have not released anything new or holding out until the end of the show. Usually engadget and the major news sites cover Clevo.
-
It's the 2nd day of 5.
Calm down folks. lol -
Calm down? No! I want to know it all, NAO!
Seriously though, if I weren't such a massochist I would've bought the w870 long time ago. Now, I'm kinda glad that I didn't..
Oh well!
EDIT: Sleey0, you live in Australia? I'm thinking cause of your title; "DoubleU - Tee - Eff?!?".. Makes me think of the end of the world flash video, with the australians going ... -
Nah. Never even been to Aus although I'd love to go
lol
I am a born and raised Florida boy living in FREEZING cold PA
I just did that because W TF is stupid to block.... -
Damn right it is, but aight!
Taling about Florida, you been to the keys? beautiful place
ONTOPIC though: Anyone know of any good sites that cover CeBit? I just look up a few Swedish sites, along with theinq and semiaccurate. But .. I want moar. -
I would like to sail to Aussyland, but that's another topic. I saw that Mysyn (German Clevo reseller) had a stand at CeBIT, but were showing off only the X8100 with 285 gpu's. No ATI stuff, nor on their website. Develtech (German Co.) is offering ATI's for their Clevo mobile 7 units at a 49 EUR premium. Kobalt U.K. - no, Italy reseller yes, but when. Nothing going on yet! Checked the net every which way, no rumors worth their salt. New Asus, MSI, HP stuff heavily commented on. But nothing of quality. Maybe we will get surprised, but I think there may be delays in interesting products for a few months. In my opinion, the first iteration of I7 and more recent offerings of I5, I3 lower level products is disappointing. Maybe Clevo lost their freight in route and hoping for the air carrier to deliver before CeBIT closes?????
-
Let's keep in mind that this goes until the 6th of March.
That said, Nvidia better come through with these fabled 300M chips.
I'm smelling disappointment. -
Don't worry. If nvidia can't get anything new and innovative going there is always a "g92c" waiting around the corner
lol -
http://tv.hexus.net/ & engadget are the places I've been going.
-
Damn right, lol.. The g92's been around..
And on the topic of w hores, .. Nevermind, couldn't finish the joke.
Anyways; thanks for the hexus link, m8.
EDIT: seems "Who-re" is not allowed. w t f? -
I like the fabled part! LOL! They will be expensive (due to higher failure rate at production/consumer) and have their short day in history (1 year survival with upgrades) if they start dropping them on the market as planned. Technically, it is a dead - end technology in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, if your in need at the time of the biggest bang available, enjoy, rotate to the next big bang a year later, as Sleey0 suggests. Myself, I generally am very particular about the darlings I wish to treasure, they are always over clockable, if in dire need of sheer performance in the face of a potential new love, ah, the risks! ATI really needs to acquire some good programmers dedicated to get the most out of their products. That is nvidia's success, lacking technology, to squeeze a bit more and to hell with power bill. (my opinion).
-
atlantic, ATI is integrating the mobility cards into their desktop drivers
So, driverwise it'll start getting alot better...! -
I agree mobile card wise, that things will get better and the faster they do it (ATI), the better of the consumer will be! This is in relationship to the expanding market of mobile toys at affordable prices without excess tech no-how to get it to work, i.e., the consumer market. This has been ATI's weak link for a very long time, good tech - bad support (need more staffed programmers) in providing updates to the firmware. Result = poor acceptance by the elite gamer's/OC'ers and that filters down to the consumer - translation buy nvidia for more performance and support.
Any info on Clevo from Cebit?
