I'm happy with the performance of the internal Bluetooth module in my M570U/5760, but I'm not happy that Logitech SetPoint refuses to use it properly - my mice are seen as generic mice by Windows, but cannot be configured using SetPoint.

As an EE, it occurred to me that this was an easy problem to fix. Because the internal Bluetooth board uses a USB interface, making an adapter that would allow me to install the Logitech USB dongle internally is fairly straightforward. If the RF performance turns out to be lousy due to shielding from the laptop's case, I'll remove the loop antenna and convert the Logitech USB dongle to use the laptop's built-in 2.4GHz antenna.

I'd like to do this up more professionally and mount everything on a custom PCB (circuit board), but due to minimum quantity restrictions, I'll end up with a few more than I need. I figured others might be interested in such a solution; if you are, please contact me in this forum or by private message. If there is enough interest, I'll commission a small run.

Here's what the product would be:

    • Internal BT port -> USB type A jack (normal USB jack) converter
    • Power switched on/off using BT hotkey
    • BT indicator LED would indicate power status

There is plenty of room in the M570U / 5760 for a standard USB dongle to be fitted internally. This converter would allow ANY USB dongle to be attached to the system and switched via the BT hotkey. Note that this could be an excellent solution for those of you who use wireless mice that require an external dongle.

Any questions or comments are appreciated!

Very cool idea! With how tiny the PCB is on the VX Revolution I've got I'm sure you could hide it pretty much anywhere =P

To bad I don't have the BT for my compal or I'd get my "one free dongle replacement" and have you do the mod. I suppose I could do it myself, but I'm rather lazy about this sort of thing... ;)

pyro9219, in the immortal words of Eeyore, "thanks fer noticin'."

Forgive the bump. Despite the lack of folks standing 'round the block to get one of these, I've decided that I want one badly enough to build six of them, which is the smallest quantity I can make on a limited PCB run and parts order.

When they are made, I'll post pictures and reassure everyone that my laptop wasn't fried during the installation.

If anyone wants to grab one, I'll be breaking even at $35 shipped within the US. Again, PM me or respond in this thread if you're interested.

It's to bad that I didn't order the blue tooth card for my notebook. I'd love to know if I could get my VX revolution to work with the bluetooth adapter built in. Or do a mod like yours.

Let us know how it goes. :)
