That RAM looks like it should work fine. It's a standard PC3-10600/DDR3 1333 set, so there aren't any hardware compatibility issues. I can't speak to the brand, but as far as hardware goes, it should be compatible.

However, did you order the model with 2x4GB originally or 4x2GB? Check with CPUz or a similar program (or just open the machine up and look) and be sure that you have two empty slots. If you had 2x4GB installed originally, there should be two empty slots under the panel on the bottom of the laptop.

Thank you for your reply. I have not opened it up to check but it does say on the order confirmation that it is 2x4, and it's confirmed in Sisoft Sandra. I also asked the sales rep where I purchased it and he said he was pretty sure it would work but suggested that I asked here first.

    Update:

Intalled the ram just fine. My system had two free slots right underneath the back cover. No need to remove keyboard.
System boots up fine into windows 7, but locks up or shut down as soon as it's under any kind of stress.

I have tried to pull the ram out and put them back in but it did not help.

I guess I am taking the ram back to the store.

Do not use the above ram in your NP8150.

Did you run a memtest and check each stick of memory? It's highly likely it's not a compatibility issue, but that you had a bad stick in the set.

No I did not run any test with each stick individually. I might as well do that. I don't have any specific mem tests installed but I will run 3dmark vantage. I tried it with both sticks installed and it locked up in the first test. Also the windows performace index caused a lockup.

3DMark won't help you with memory checks. Run Memtest:

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

That way you can find out if either stick is potentially damaged/faulty (which based on your symptoms seems to be the case).

    Thanks, I appreciate your help.

I am running memtest right now with one of the sticks installed. I will let you know what happens.

It would be nice if it's just a faulty stick and I don't have to return both and pay a 25% restocking fee.

Okay I tested both sticks individually in memtest (booted from USB), and in both memory slots as well. The first stick passed without any errors in both slots. The second one locked up after a couple minutes in both slots.

So it's pretty obvious then that the one ram module is faulty and I will exchange it today and hopefully I will have better luck with my second set.

    Thanks for your help.

I just added 8 gig of corsair to mine (the same stuff you linked above) been fine for two days in gaming no BSOD's, but I was a little nervous about using it as I still am. The problems seem to be hit or miss. Of course my keyboard has been a little quirky after taking it off and putting it back on.

I got a replacement set and have had no crashes so far but memtest is reporting random errors, spd informations, sometimes reporting single channel sometimes dual channel. I have not tested the individual rams yet but find it unlikely that I would have received another faulty set. Maybe the Corsair don't work well with the Samsung or perhaps the spd timings are incorrect and I need to update bios? I am not sure what to make out of this but will continue testing each stick separately to see if once again one of them is faulty...

Ran memtest on each one and once again one ram stick is crap... so I got two bad pairs in a row. Should I give it another try and have them exchanged for a third pair or should I just give up and try a different brand?

Is it always one stick in the same slot, or have you tried both slots? It's possible the slot is bad. Otherwise, I'd say with the number of defective sticks you've gotten, you may want to try another brand.

I have tried both sticks in both slots, and the good stick works in both and the bad stick does not work in either, so I think it's safe to say that both slots are okay. I bought the Corsair not really because I needed them right now but they were on special for $49.00, hard to resist :D

Thanks for the tip, but with shipping and taxes it will probably cost me over $100.00, twice as much as the Corsair. If I really needed the extra 8gigs then it would be justified, but for now maybe I should just wait. Perhaps I try a third pair I don't know. It seems that some other people have had success with the Corsair so maybe I am just having bad luck.

Any thoughts on putting two single 4 gig sticks together (GSKILL 4GB PC3-12800 or GSKILL 4GB PC3-10666)?

I ended up giving Corsair one more chance and picked up a third set first thing in the morning. I have been running memtest the whole day and so far no errors.

This will work fine, though because the G.Skill is faster DDR3-1600 RAM, it'll run at the slower DDR3-1333 speeds when you pair it up like that. Compatibility-wise though, it'll run without problems, just slower than it's rated for :)

Glad to hear you got it working. Two bad sticks of RAM is unlucky.
