I understand that AG screen is not the best option for gamers as you sacrifice the viewing angles, contrast etc., but I also use my machine as a business notebook and absolutely need an anti-glare screen.
Tried third party screen protectors - total waste of money.
So is there anything worthy out there?

I absolutely do not get why every damned screen on laptops these days are "super shiny glare" screens, its completely retarded, ESPECIALLY on a laptop where you may be outside or in less than ideal lighting conditions.

Give me a good matte screen, i could give two sh*ts if i lose contrast, i do not want to sit and look at my own fat mug while trying to game or surf.

The MBP 15 inch has the option of a matte screen for +-40 extra €

The sony vaio BZ series are also matte (not sure about the B series but I guess they are exactly the same).

Aren't lenovo laptops also matte most of the time?

Get some high grit sandpaper and rub out your screen. There's your anti-glare.

Yes, those screens are great, especially the Lenovo W5XX, but I also need the power ;)

That's funny, that's exactly what it looks like with a protector/shield skin put over your nice glare screen.
Have you ever seen an anti-glare MBP or Lenovo screens?
Do they look sanded to you?
To me that's the best option,...Screw the RGB and OLED! Gimme a nice anti-glare WLED screen in addition to SLI/CF power and I'm game.
All I'm asking is a Clevo/AW system with a screen,...like this one at the very least.

Russian components,... American components, - all made in Taiwan! Kaboom!

Soviet Russia is pipetz (aka no more), IBM ThinkPads are pi...gone, but even Lenovo can't destroy the ThinkPads line as they are still the best. Screw the looks, screw the name, show me a single laptop that had ZERO failures in 8 years of extreme use (less than 8hrs of down time in every 3 months on average, and gaming up to 20hrs a day straight) ;)
A pity they don't focus on the gaming sector...

Well those reflecting screens tend to give deeper and brighter colours, I think thats why laptop manufacturers use them more ofthen.
It seems they think we prefer seeing bright colours and reflections most of the time over 'less colourfull' colours with no reflections.

I'm using a monitor with matte surface, the reflective surface is really bad for the eye, I was having a perfect eyesight until I started using a laptop with reflective surface and now I got 50 degrees on both eyes, so I switched to using a matte LCD instead a year ago.

Yep, and since there are people that would prefer the "less colourful" screens with no reflections, the option should be available. Again, I don't mind paying extra and losing some colour depth and viewing angles.

I have a similar problem after 7 months of using a glare type screen.
To restore your eyesight don't put glasses on! Just spend more time outdoors, watching birds, fishing, hiking forests, etc. This will work better than anything else. Few years ago my eyesight dropped after sitting for about a year in the computer farm @my university. My doc said to urgently put glasses on, but I rejected the offer and after 2 months of 'extensive nature retreats' got my vision back 100%.

I got my NP 5793 in the last few days it was being offered, when there was the $600 discount - I missed the matte screen option by a day :(

I absolutely cannot use my computer outdoors.

I have not seen a reseller offering a REAL matte screen for Clevo 860/870. They are a plastic film anti-glare coating applied to the standard hi - gloss screens. I would definitely ask the reseller for the screen part number and look it up yourself. One can also find companies on E-bay that will apply the film for you, or you can by a kit and risk doing it yourself. Either way it is not cheap, nor will the results be the same in comparison to a real matte screen. There are reviews on this subject, just Google it. The best way to go, is simply buy an external matte screen of the quality you need for your work.

I think your right about this subject. A lot of Doctor's have been saying the same thing, plus people getting headaches. The self treatment you use, going outside where you can look in the distance is good and has been suggested by many doctors for people that spend to much time inside (using their eyes for short distances). This is one of the leading causes why such a high percentage of children need glasses at a early age, barring other causes. Some Doctors have even started providing eye retraining courses to correct vision naturally rather than prescribing glasses. Once you start using glasses, you will always be wearing them and they will be come thicker with time. Maybe it will take a law suit or two, to get the MFG's to reconsider their grand cost saving plan. I expect as current and near future 3 - D technology floats down to the masses, there will be more problems of this nature.

We forget that humans are hunters and needed our unique eyesight for the outdoors to survive.

I agree, my eyes also got very weak due to my glare sreen. When I went into consutrction for a year my sight improved (not 100% but it was livable again). Since I started studying again, i'm forced to wear glasses while I drive, and my sight just keeps getting worse and worse. If I wear glasses my eyes become even weaker, but i'm not goin back to construction to give my eyes some rest.

Lol, Eurocom heard my call and suddenly they have the anti-glare/matte screens :p I hope others will follow.
So for those spies among us:
We need either W/Multi LEDS or RGB LEDs (all Matte/Anti-Glare)
