    Hi guys,

    I just rec'd my NP9170 today and the Audio quality is not very good. Been researching on how to improve the sound quality and came across Fiio E17. Anybody have experience with this product? Any recommendation? Your help is greatly appreciated.

    My 2cent,

    I am currently using Fiio E17 with my laptop under my signature with my sennheiser 598. Sound quality is definitely broader with more clarity than the default audio out jack. Personally, I like Fiio e17 and most of the reviews score this DAC positively, however it is still not to my liking, or maybe I am just expecting too much out of a budget portable DAC. By no means am I an audiophile, my setting is treble 4, bass 6, volume ~ 30 and I am pleased at the moment.

    My first language is not English, so please pardon my grammar.

    QKVenGeaNce, what is it that you don't like about it? I just received mine and am yet to test it out properly. Btw, you have good English :).

    When you said your setting is treble 4, bass 6, you meant the setting on the laptop or setting on the DAC?

    I find it exceptionally good with my DT150 headphones. The optical input is a huge plus, as you can feed it via a xonar card and get an actually good eq along with Dolby headphone dsp.

    I've been going to Head-fi and looking at reviews for the fiio E17 and the new Dragonfly DAC. The Dragonfly is smaller, has better reviews but as expected is more expensive, but I do love my music! I'll be using one or the other on my Sager 6165 and on my work pc with ATH-M50s or Senn 598s. Lots of good info to be had if you search. Good Luck and Happy listening!

    Regards,
    Chas

    @OP:

    That is my settings on the Fiio E17

    @columbosoftserve:

    I have a wired Astro Mixamp hooked up to my x360. The bass felt tighter and more intense than E17 and sound clarity is clearer. Because it is wired with long cables so it's not feasible to carry around. I don't know if comparing Fiio E17 with Astro Mixamp is fair or not, because I am a noob in this field.

    yeah the E17 is a nice entry level DAC and will be ok as long as you're not an audiophile.
