Anyone else had to re-authorize Windows Vista today?

So check this out. I woke up today to discover that my windows vista ultimate OS was suddenly not genuine. I've had this computer for 2 years and this has never happened before. The only updates I've done for the past week were for windows defender, though just to be sure I tried to roll back to a previous restore point, but for some reason that didn't work. I start freaking out.

I then use microsoft's MGADiag.exe tool and it confirms that my license is suddenly not valid. On a whim, I try to re-enter my license number from the code under the laptop, and it works. I stop freaking out.

I then go and check my personal email account (the one where I never-ever-ever get spam) and behold, I have an email from a "Faustino Stacy" <[email protected]> who begins with, in a very long email:

    Hello,

It has come to my attention that you might have an interest in purchasing the operating system
    Windows 7 Ultimate version.

Now I start freaking out again. ?! This *can't* be a coincidence. No way! A complete stranger offering me an 'unlocked' windows 7 for the "very low price of $40" right after my own copy of vista stops being genuine??

So I ask, you nameless masses, has anyone else experienced this? I am frantically searching my computer and email for any evidence of a hack and I'm thinking perhaps powernotebook.com (where I got the laptop from and who has my email address) might be having some issues with security? Has someone got access to all their windows vista/7 ID's?!?

Or, am i freaking out over two completely unrelated series of events.

Man I do love powernotebooks. They got back to me within the hour and they also think it's just a weird coincidence.

ANYway. Let me know if anyone has experienced anything similar.

I am not sure, but I think that M$ has dropped support for Vista.

I had a somewhat similar occurrence in that Win 7 all of a sudden started giving me pop-up notices that Windows needed to be activated. I've had this 8760 since last March. Finally, tired of the reminders, I entered the key. That was that; the little Genuine Windows banner returned and the pop-ups ceased. Thought the whole Genuine Windows Advantage? deal was terminated, but there it was again. I have no clue what triggered it, but it seems to be over.

Probably a hacker got in your computer, did sth with your licence, then he offers you a windows licence for a price and if you agree, he will some way re-activate the current one and after a while do that again... Confusing I know...... Maybe you should start thinking of an antivirus/spyware program. Windows Defender is just a crap.

I very much doubt that, windows does randomly lose its licence sometimes - it just happens

I just got a popup on my M11x that said I need to reauthorize. I clicked cancle and it seems to be fine now. I get it on occasion on the multiple PC's I use.
