    Hello,

I'm just wondering if anyone bought from XoticPC.com who lives in Canada. How much did you pay for the duties ? What shipping method do you recommend ? And please don't say EUROCOM, because I'm planning to purchase a NP2092.

    Thanks

I ordered my 9262 from Xotic and I live in Calgary. It arrived at my door and all I paid was the GST ($170 and change or something close) I did pay for the express shipping ($89.00 from Xotic) and it didnt get brokerage fees or anything.

Xotic has been extremely amicable on various issues I have had and even got patched up to Sager and their head of technical support and it has been a very pleasing experience from day one with them.

I would and will be ordering from them again as soon as the m860ut comes out if they carry it. I looked and tried Eurocom being in Canada and was not pleased with what I saw/heard and got for replies from them so it made my choice easier to go to Xotic and I am pleased on all accounts.

Exactly. Seems the way to go is express. Will be a little higher, but once you figure this out, just expect both taxes. I once ordered from J&R in NY and my camera shipped thursday night, and I got it friday morning. No duties, no broker. Just plain taxes.

Just keep in ming though that every time you'll have to replace something you'll have to go cross border. That could be a hassle and give more delays...

AET in Montreal, dammit, they are 5 minutes from my home!!! Didn't even know they existed! Can a mod update the resellers if they are not there?

I guess that by choosing the Express shipping option you only pay GST (5%), everywhere in Canada (hopefully). I think the other taxes apply to local companies.

Is that how it works? Can anyone confirm that express shipping removes the PST? I'd much rather pay a bit more to get it faster and not have to pay PST. stupid taxes.

No, in my XP, both taxes are charged, because probably somehow your delivery is handled by your local puro or UPS office... Anyway in QC I've always paid both taxes...

Without reading the thread.. I bought from XoticPC, delivered to Mississauga; a fantastic experience. This was about 6 months ago (Sept 2007), so my threads should be buried, but in the search?

I posted positive review to resellerratings.com and such..

You'll pay GST in your country + shipping costs (223 for USPS, which is not recommended anymore or 280 something for UPS, which is the best way to go).

Lol, sorry to revive a dead thread...
But I plan to get the exact same laptop as the one in auburncoast's sig...from AET because I live so very close to Montreal (in the West Island) and due to taxes, I have been excluding XoticPC from my list of retailers.
Does anyone recommend that its cheaper to buy locally than across a border? Just asked AET to send me a quote on the sager.

Dude, you'll have to pay the taxes anyway with AET except if they don't declare that. If you are buying from the US or in Quebec, you'll have to pay your 13% of taxes. The only way you can avoid the PST is if you are buying from another province, ie Eurocom. You have a cheap shipping cost and only 5% of taxes (vs 13%). But some users report bad experience so that's your choice. I had US funds that I bought when 1CAD=1USD so it worth it to buy from the US. Also, consider that AET is in CAD currency so its normal if its more expensive. I paid mine around $2550 (incl. shipping) + $380 of taxes. My best recommandation would be Pro-Star since they only charge you $290 flat rate that includes taxes, brokerage fees and shipping.

Read my guide for more info.

    I ordered from Xoticpc.com
    With Express UPS ~$110

I don't have to pay anything other than NP8660 cost+shipping cost.
It arrives at my door a week after they got my payment. And that's all.

By the way, i'm in BC (Vancouver)

and I just got a quote from AET for my purchase.

And what about buying from Tigerdirect.ca?

False statement. You can't say anything until it arrives at your door. I also ordered from Xotic PC, I paid my $110. And it arrived at my door...$$$ Collect on delivery taxes. Get your cash ready. You can't avoid taxes. Check my guide for more info.

The lowest tax is in Alberta with no PST, only GST so only 5%. Who much was your quote? Does it includes shipping etc? Because I believe AET just order it from Sager.

TigerDirect have a lot of choice but a lot of the items are way overpriced. Try www.shopbot.ca and I highly recommand NCIX.com and DirectCanada for computer parts and a lot more.

    Ok the AET quote...
    AET Solutions Inc. - Sager NP5796: (base)2,455.41+(gst)147.3246+(pst)184.15575= (Total)2786.89035

the base includes shipping and brokerage fees.
did all the adding...left all decimal places ;) as its just a C&P job from the calc.

I'm really leaning towards getting the GW P-172XL(will settle for this as the 7811fx is not available to us) from TG because getting a Sager would be all-round more expensive when paying the taxes.

But if its possible to get the Sager than I'm all ears.

Tried NCIX and DirectCanada..but neither sell GW's or Sager T_T....further guidance needed.

Oh and livesoft great Guide(under sig) helps clear up some definitions.

If I remember correctly, as I've been in the situation before.
UPS will just keep it and deliver it to the nearest Post Office and ask you to pick it up and pay for the Brokerage fees there ;) (my experience was with CanadaPost...I expect UPS to do the same)

really? I can spend more, 2k is just an estimation.

I really, would die for, a sager np5796. I can afford it.
but any where I look it's always ridiculously priced and then I look at something like XoticPc and get jealous at the fact that I can't buy from them because of the after-fees I would have to pay when it arrives at my doorstep.

    EDIT: budget expanded. ;)

after fees? theres none if you pay the 110$ shipping

if you call extra fees = tax? then man... tax are tax gotta live with it

    estimation
    2000$USD
    2000$ x 1.04740009 = 2094$CAD
    2094$CAD + 115.17$CAD= 2209.04$ = final price or almost.

Some fees might be added( not more then 100$ ) but there wont be any brokerage fee.

btw go read livesoft guide for canadian shipping it helps

    bonne chance

lol I did read livesoft's guide a while back but..... AHHH!

So is that a different way of saying thumbs up to buying from XoticPC? Costs 2,389.00USD for my config.
    And on another note(off-topic)

I've never bought anything this expensive...and I would be using Paypal and its hooked to my credit card...how do I pay for something over my limit of 1k?
Probably should consult a XoticPC repres. or Paypal....but just gonna ask anyways just in case the answer is obvious...;P. thanks in advance. :)

    >.> If your credit card has a 1k limit then you would have to consult your credit card and see if they can raise the limit. Or if you mean it has a 1k per day limit then you would just make two payments in two days. Anything you buy in the US and shipped to Canada you should plan to pay and extra 100-300$ more for taxes and brokerage fee's possibly more. The last GW 6860 fx I sold went to Canada and I believe he had to pay around 175$ upon arrival. :D You should just buy my system I'll give you a good deal.

@bwhxeon: yea I was planning on taking you up on that..but as my sig states, I only need to get it for the Christmas, meaning planning to buy it then...and I doubt a d901c would last that long on NBR ;)

@robvya, I'm also a bit confused/noob-ed about bank wire transfers. does it take directly from the bank or do I need to sign up to something like moneybookers? and don't wire transfers have a limit too?

OK, I should be updating my guide in the next days to clarify the process and all.

CanadaPost: After one delivery attempt, you have to pick it up at the post office.

UPS (UPS is always different and that's why so much people hates them): If you don't have the money, the driver will laugh at you because he has the laptop you wanted so much in his hands but he won't give it to you :D He will make 2 other delivery attemps in the next 2 business days. After 3 attemps and because the package is collect on delivery, the package will be returned to the sender without giving you 5 days to go pick it up...EXCEPT IF you call the number at the back of the InfoNotice, select the correct options, wait for the whole message to end then speak the a representative. Tell them your tracking number and tell them you want to go pick up the package yourself instead of UPS making other delivery attemps. The package will be intercepted and holded for 5 business days.

Payment options at the door are cash, personal check, money order etc. at the name of UPS. Payment at the pickup location are the same as above + credit card.

There's might be minimal fees for processig but I didn't notice it on my UPS invoice. Will upload this one in the next days.

If you want to simplify the process, Pro-Star asks $290 fee which includes shipping cost, brokerage fees and taxes, which is a great deal but I didn't get any user reports from this. I paid $380 of taxes + shipping so I don't get how they can make the price so low.

As bwhxeon said, raise the limit of call them to make several payments. Why don't you just enter your credit card number instead of being charged Paypal currency fees? Also, I wouldn't recommand using the credit card except if you have a bigger limit.

Wire Transfers implies dealing with companies like Western Union, which is not the safest method. With XoticPC, I would recommand you use the "Secured payment" method if your credit card have the required amount. The best method would be to send a Bank Draft (Traite bancaire), which is the equivalent of Money Order but since money order are limited to a value of $1000, a bank draft is better. All you have to do is to go at your local bank and ask for a bank draft. You just have to give them your bank account number and all the stuff and pay a $7.50 fee. Bank draft is great since I wanted to use my US funds that I bought when 1USD=1CAD. If you don't mind not getting the cash rebate, just raise the credit card limit and pay by credit card.

Btw, its 1:16AM so I'm really tired. There's might be some incoherent parts above. :p

No no, pretty understandable, Bank Drafts. Putting that on my to-do/inquiry list.

Other than that I think I'm pretty much set to venture into buying over-the-border. ;)

I'll figure out the limits of a bank draft tomorrow, at least that's something to do tomorrow as I'm completely free till Monday.

The best way for you would be to buy from Pro-Star since the process is easier but if you want to buy from XoticPC, here's what I recommand:

(opt.)- Raise the limit of your credit card
(opt.)- Use the secured method payment: http://www.xoticpc.com/payment-information-ip-14.html
(opt.)- Wait for you cash discount amount
1- Go to your bank and ask for a bank draft (not a money order) is US FUNDS!!!! at the name of XoticPC. Pay the $7.50 fee
2- Mail your bank draft. I recommand having a tracking number
3- Wait for the bank draft to arrive, took my life 5 business days in Express and the payment to clear
4- Wait for the laptop to be shipped.

    If you took Standard shipping:
    - Check your email every morning
    - When the laptop is shipped, immediatly call UPS and tell them you'll handle the paperword yourself
    - You will be noticed when the package arrive at the border
    - Fill the paperwork and go at your local Border Agency with the papers and to pay the taxes.
    - The package will be released and delivered at your house.

    If you took Express shipping:
    - The day you'll get the email, it's already arrived :p. In my case, it shipped around 8PM, got the email the next morning around 8AM and it was at Brossard already. A delivery attempt will be made the same day.
    - Payment at the door: cash, check, money order, at the label of UPS.

IF you cannot be at home because you have a life, call UPS, select the delivery attemps in the menus...wait for the whole message to end. You will be transfered to a representative. Tell them you want to pick up the package yourself.
