    livesoft...you are the Shipping-God. ;)

    lol

this is amazingly helpful for how to go about with buying laptops over border.

I plan to use XoticPC also, do you still remember how much you paid in total for the np8660 ( I plan to get the 5796 but..just need an example of how much it will cost me at the end)

Lol, its just that I bought some many things over the net. At the beginning, the shipping was just a pain so why not help everyone else :)

I paid ~$2550 (incl. shipping) with cash discount in US funds with a bank draft + $380 of taxes in CAD.

That was a long time ago...even if US economy is going down, the gas is going down also. I just don't expect parity for now. Now, 1 USD = 1.04459 CAD. It not as good as 1USD = 0.95 CAD but its better than 2 years ago http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Dollar#Value :)

Its still not bad today. Buy more to stimulate the economy :D

That's OK. I understand. I found it very painful the first times I order stuff.

What you pay during checkout (paid online):
    - Laptop price (~ $2000)
    - Shipping cost (Standard shipping: $56; Express shipping: $110)

If you took standard shipping, you will pay at the door:
    - Brokerage fees (except if you do the paperwork yourself, see my guide about that part): http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shipping/cost/zones/customs_clearance.html. Should be around $65-$75
    - Taxes: GST+PST. Depends on your provice. In Alberta, its 5%, in Quebec, its 13%, should be around $200-$400.

If you took Express shipping, you will pay at the door:
    - Taxes (GST+PST)

The whole information is available in my guide :)
Don't hesitate to ask questions if something is not clear =]

I'll chime in myself just cause. I bought a 2092 and it's currently on it's way across the states, and I live in Saskatoon. They were even friendly enough to change the skin for me after they had produced my original choice (for a fee). Seems good.

Alright sorry for brining up an old thread but i just wanna make sure i have everything down pat.

    Now the fee is

1,662.37$ thats already converted to candian dollars.

    I will be using

    Canada UPS Express

1-3 days with normal customs clearance - No UPS Brokerage Charges

With this the price becomes 1793$ candian.

Now i'm guessing i'm going to get charged the Taxes at my door? What will the charge be?

As you've payed shipping, the charge is going to be your sales tax.
For me it is 13%(Im pretty sure it is all of ontario)(I live in toronto)
So let me make a formula for you...
    as I am bored

Let p be the price of the laptop
    Let s be sales tax
    p+(ps)=total

    s being 0.xx not 1.xx

Btw i asked in another thread but i was wondering this is abit off topic but say most the time im using the laptop plugged in do i need to take the battery out? i'v heard it harms the laptop if u have the battery in while playing with it plugged in.

    In short no.
I think in the long run it may decrease it by 5%
Ive had a few laptops, the ammount of extra work it is to do that, I rather just buy a new battery off ebay for $70
It will litteraly continue to be a pain in the posterior
