I wasn't having freezes for most of the game until recently. I occasionally get freezes right after I startup the game (no black screen thought), and two other times the game has freezed or crashed. No blue screens, fortunately. has anyone experienced these issues with Crysis and their 7970M?

i got a crash after start yesterday, i had my powerplay set to max battery, maybe that caused the crash?
Anyway i dont play crysis 2 much, but after setting powerplay properly i tested it a bit and it was ok. Heard some people have these crashes as well in other posts. -

I made a thread about crashing in Crysis 2 a month or two ago. It's most likely the atidxx32.dll crash that happens on some games with the 12.11 beta drivers. You can stop the crashing by running in windowed mode. I've been playing Crysis 2 again on beta11, and it doesn't crash nearly as much as it did on 12.11P. I'm about halfway through the game (modded with MaldoHD 3.0 and Quality Mod) and it's only crashed on me once, so I just run it in full screen. It used to happen every 5 minutes lol.
Crysis 1 has never crashed on me though. -

OP: are you playing with a mod, like failwheeldrive? I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the bug.

and played a bit of crysis 1 and was crash free... -
Also, Crysis 1 was fine during the first half of the game. It wasn't until the later levels that I would see freezes at startup or during gameplay. There was one random crash where the program closed with no Windows error message, like nothing happened. That was also near the end of the game.
Oh and can some one please acknowledge the bright pixel line at the bottom that occasionally comes up in Crysis 1? During cut scenes, it happens to the bottom and right side of the screen. I posted on the Steam forum and got no reply. It would be weird if it was just me. -

OK, so I've been doing some searching online for a solution to the atidxx32.dll crashes. So far, the only way I've found to completely prevent them is to run the affected games in windowed mode. This is usually really annoying for me, unless the game has an option for borderless windowed mode (Far Cry 3, for example.) I started searching for a utility that will run games in borderless windowed mode even if it isn't a built in option in the game's menu or config. I found several programs that do just that, though some of them are old and haven't been updated in years, while others don't come from a trustworthy source.
The best option I found is also the simplest: it's a lightweight utility made by Steam forums user Hellstrong. Here is his 11 page thread where you can download the utility Play all your games in Windowed borderless mode. - Steam Users' Forums
It has been verified virus-free, and tons of Steam users have used it to run their games in borderless mode. There's no installation necessary, and it's really easy to set up:
=====INSTRUCTIONS===== (from Hellstrong's thread)
Adding a game's window.
Run the app and start up a game.
Make sure you run the game in windowed mode before adding it to the app.
After you have set your game to run windowed, click the app's tray icon and select "Add window"
Go back to your game and while the game window is active press "F3"
Your game should now be in windowed border-less mode, your settings are saved so the app will recognize your game whenever it runs in windowed mode again and automatically set it to be borderless.
Removing a game
Click the app's tray icon and select "Open game settings"
select the game and press Delete, this app no longer manages that games window style.

So far I have verified it to work with Crysis 2, Max Payne 2, and Hitman: Absolution. I will test it later with Assassin's Creed III, as quite a few 7970m owners have had crashing with that title also. Trantalocked, check your event viewer to see the application error you are getting. If the faulting module is atidxx32.dll or atidxx64.dll, I highly recommend this program. Hope this helps!
Edit: AC3 doesn't work, since Ubisoft apparently doesn't know how to add a windowed mode option to its game. Odd. -
WindowedBorderlessGaming is the best tool out there. I used it for BF3 and it worked really well.
Anyone have freezes or crashing in Crysis with the 7970M?
