I'm considering which reseller should I choose, between Xoticpc and Eurocom.
So far, I see many people choose to buy from Xoticpc.
But comparing the price to Eurocom, I think Eurocom is cheaper. And there are more options to choose when configure the laptop, eg. no webcam(sub45) no wireless(sub~80). I've never used webcam, so I have no reason to get it for my laptop. And wireless card from ebay is only about 40$. Im thinking about getting laptop from eurocom without webcam and wireless card which save me a about 120$.
So Im just asking anyone here getting it from eurocom?
And how good are the laptops from Eurocom comparing to Xoticpc? Is it the same?
Which reseller do u suggest??
P.s. this is my first laptop, so........ I hope I can use it for a long time....

webcam will be very important the in coming years, since the hand gesture control is getting popular. I would highly recommend you getting it.
-
I will be ordering from eurocom once reviews about the machine start coming out and the coast is clear
-
-
I'll order a M860TU from Eurocom once more information about its usage of the ATI Mobility 3870 is available.

I think there are a lot of things you can do with the hand gesture recognition.
Just think about it, won't it be cool if you can use your hands as controllers for your videos, games, music, etc.
I know I don't have a lot proof for what I said, but I can gues that the algorithm of making them to happen won't be extremely difficult. I am guessing that is because the playstation already used camera as a way of controlling games. The microsoft surface is based on a kind of camera technology.
All the hardware are already in place for a successful hand gesture recognition, all that is needed is more software development.
Here is a taste of what hand gesture control means

Don't give someone advice just because you think it'd be cool if PC webcams were used for games. That's like giving someone advice to buy a PS3 because it'd be cool if more exclusives were going to be released for it.

Not just cool, I actually think it is going to happen soon, it is a gut feeling, whether he trust my gut feeling or not is up to him. I am just doing what I think would be helpful ...

Name a PC game that was announced to have webcam control support.
I have a gut feeling that Heroes season 3 will be as awesome as the end of season 1, but I wouldn't bet money on it. -
don't mean to break up the hand gesture conversation here, but:
"Anyone here getting NP8660 from Eurocom?"
no offence, but maybe you guys can start a new thread so we can stay on topic here?
I was also thinking of opting out of having a webcam since eurocom offers that option, but I also really don't want an empty hole on the top of my screen! -
The only reason I won't drop the webcam and wireless is because I can order a laptop from the states for the same price, with the features that I'd have to drop - and this is after the exchange rate.
Unless I can get a price match, buying from Eurocom either puts me past my budget or buys me a comparatively crippled M860TU.
I've sent out an email to JShore on Wednesday concerning price matching- haven't gotten a response. Last I heard he was on vacation, though. Seeing as I'll be living in Ottawa for, oh, four years Eurocom only makes sense from a warranty perspective. -
which US retailer are you looking at and what is the final price?
-
I bought the laptop with a webcam... just a personal preference. Initially I was tempted to order a stripped down version with no bluetooth, wifi, or webcam but the end price for me was pretty reasonable so I just decided to get it all.
Anyways, has anyone heard of updates on this unit from Eurocom? Last I heard, there were delays due to the increased Olympic security... hope to get it next week! -
-
I also noticed if you configure your laptop on Eurocom's website using USD, the converted (to CAD) amount actually is cheaper than configuring your laptop in CAD right off the bat... interesting eh?
-
Can anyone suggest me should I configure it in CAD or USD?
and I dont have to pay for tax if I go for USD???
First time for me, so confuse XD
What about the brokerage fee?? Do i have to pay for that? -
- Brokerage fees will only apply if you are ordering from a US retailer. Keep in mind that you WILL NOT have to pay any additional customs/duties as there are no duties on laptops being sent across the border.
- You will have to pay taxes, no matter what. If you order from the States, you will have to pay brokerage fees + taxes
- I would suggest contacting eurocom and asking if they will allow you to pay the CAD equivalent of their USD price: you'll end up saving approx. ~$50 I believe. -
The downside is if my Sager Breaks I have to send it out for shipping - and I foot the shipping bill.
The best I can hope to do right now is to haggle with Eurocom. If I can get a Eurocom M680TU at XoticPC's prices, I'm set.
Brokerage fees only apply to ground mail. It actually costs $5, but UPS is kind enough to charge you ~$50. XoticPC also halves shipping costs for students. -
"burn the money as an offering to Cthulhu to ward off dead pixels" -
On the downside: I'd be strengthening the Great Old Ones who seek to undo our reality.
But hey - no dead pixels. -
I have a external monitor, minus the speakers. It still came with the chassis as though it had speakers and every so often I get confused and think it has speakers. -
Anyone know if they do financing?
I'm trying to get the cheapest build available for sept.4th:
-
-
That sucks, well maybe I can reason with them, because they want my money, and I'm a poor student.
If not, I'll simply order a barebones system, and buy the ram, hdd, and operating system myself. -
I'm not saying NOT to try. Who knows if to get your business Eurocom may do something unorthrodox like that? I'm just saying its not the common practice of price matching as it normally tends to mean if you can get a SIMILAR product elsewhere for cheaper and prove it.
-
2 weeks before eurocom put clevo m570tu for 1270$ (with ATI 3870) but after email sales they removed ati 3870 option which save about 190$!
-
My m860TU is on order from Eurocom. If you're cutting corners, I'd consider dropping the wifi module and buying/installing it yourself to save ~30-40$. I'm also dropping the bluetooth because I don't ever use it.
Eurocom also offers it with a weaker/cheaper GPU, so you could skimp on that now and get them to upgrade it for you in a year or so. -
-
-
It isn't that difficult. I can't find the manual for the M860TU right now, but it is something you can do without voiding the warranty on most laptops.
In my old laptop, I had to unscrew the keyboard, remove three screws and a piece of the case, and then I had access to the wifi card. It's like putting in ram with a bit more of a pain and a few antennas to connect. -
if the laptop is ordered without a wifi card, are the two antenna lines still there, or would I have to wire those myself? (which I probably wouldn't do)
-
The antennas should be there as they are normally wrapped around the edge of screen. It'd actually probably be a pain to take them out, but I guess if they were being petty they would take the time to do it.
Anyone here getting NP8660 from eurocom?
