Would anyone be interested in an 8690 user review complete with full HD video of things such as "fan noise, bench marks, in-game performance, real world performance, etc. etc.? I know there is an NBR review here but it is reviewed with a GTX285M and 920XM, which not many people here are able to afford/have.

Go for it! Don't leave out the small details (such as the quality of the mic) in your review ;p

Looks like I'll be writing one up once I recieve it (should come in the week of the 20th).

I'll be using a similar format to my Sager NP5790 review a couple years back; would this be a sufficient amount of information for you guys? Any suggestions/additions will be considered in addition to the current information in the thread. I am relying on YOU guys to tell me what should be in the review! I know many reviews leave a lot to be desired and my motto for a review is to review a product complete with pictures/videos to make it as if the person reading the review is actually there looking and using the laptop!

    Looks like an awesome review.

I am expecting to see the following:

    • Temperatures 1 (@ your normal ambient temp)
      • Idle
      • Gaming (30 min ~ 1 hour)
      • Extensive Gaming (2+ hours)
      • Intense Gaming (1 ~ 2 hours, with demanding games)
      • 3dMark06 Score + Temps
      • 3dMark Vantage Score + Temps
      • Heaven Benchmark + Temps
      • Furmark + Temps(not really neccesarry for obvious reasons)

    • Temperatures 2 (at a different ambient temp, turn up your heater; simulate mine: 33C)
      • Idle
      • Gaming
      • Extensive Gaming
      • Intense Gaming
      • 3dMark06 Score + Temps
      • 3dMark Vantage Score + Temps
      • Heaven Benchmark + Temps
      • Furmark + Temps

Other than that, try the usual games that everyone wants to see... (Crysis, Left4dead2, BF:BC2, etc..) at the highest settings, and at the recommended most "fluent" settings... (the settings that yield the better framerates... for me 25+ is acceptable, 30+ is preffered, 60+ is orgasmic)

Although I can tell that Crysis @ Very High usually gets around 16 FPS on 1080p... how would it fare on VeryHigh but different resolutions?
    Try those things out :)

    Make, if you can, a with/without vent-sticker comparison in temperatures;
also, if your temps are abnormal, make a comparison if you change the thermal compound...

    Thank you :D

Oh and kingtz down down there wants some SC2 benchmarks on ultra settings at 1080p... :p

Good point on the vent sticker, Ben. Maybe the review can show the temps (both idle and load) with and without that vent. I know everyone who has removed the vent sticker reports lower temps, but I don't think anyone has tested this within a controlled, semi-scientific context of an actual review.

Looks like I'll be going through and doing a full review on the 8690!

My ship date has been moved up to next Monday/Tuesday but either way, I am receiving it a whole week early! Is an unboxing video necessary or shall I skip that in my review? Really up to you fellas.

Gotcha, expect a new thread to be posted here with a couple simple things...I plan to start my Review with the first post outlining some basic things+unboxing, first impressions, etc. etc. and add benchmarks and whatnot later on.

I never got unboxing videos, nothing against them but I'd rather see some good high res pictures not someone taking a laptop out of a box.
A full review would be very nice.
It's good to get a different perspective than just from one review.

My thoughts exactly IKAS_V. I have my handy Sony HDR Full HD camcorder for some sweet video footage and my Canon 50D+Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 for some sweet Hi-Res shots from all angles; how's that sound buddy?

My current benchmarking list is the following (feel free to suggest additional programs):

    3DMark06
    Furmark
    HDTune
    Crysis Benchmark Tool
    Superpi
    Hyperpi
    WPrime

    Temperature Monitoring Software:

    Rivatuner
*Need some more suggestions on good in-game GPU/CPU monitoring software*

Cinebench is another one worth running, and 3DMark Vantage is a lot more meaningful than '06.
For CPU monitoring, RealTemp can't be beaten, and I like GPU-Z for GPU monitoring because it covers load, temperatures and clock speed and does logging as well.

I would like to see an unboxing vid, but it's not really that important. Do the review how you see fit, I'm sure we'll all be happy with it anyway, but an unboxing vid would add another level of excitement to the review IMO.

As for the benchmarking list you pretty much have everything covered there.

Crylo, I will happily do an unboxing video. When I review things I really like to go in-depth and cover as many bases as I possibly can, like I mentioned before.

Salkin, you were unable to view those photos because I closed that Photobucket down, and all pictures associated with the account were deleted.
