Hey guys, I am looking for a laptop and i pretty much decided on the Sager NP5760. However, i want Core 2 instead of Core Duo for being future proof.
So, does anyone know when will Sager begin to have them?
Thanks.

Probably October. It's hard to tell. Right now, all the first-tier OEMs are taking up the supply. The earliest anyone is going to get a Core 2 is end of August, but even then, it will be very limited.

So Chaz or anyone, should i go ahead buy the Sager N5760 now and upgrade to Core 2 later, or should i keep waiting until Core 2 is out? (i been waiting for nine month. at first i waited for the Turion X2. however, when it did came out, there are not many Turion X2 out there that have a gaming GUP beside the HP and the Compal, and i don't like them.)
I begin college in Aug 24 so i need a computer very soon, any suggestion guys? Thanks for all the help!
Also, i am a competely newbie in BIOS update and all that stuff. So if i do get the computer now and later upgrade it, is it easy to do it myself ? or can i send it back to Sager and let them upgrade for me?
Last two question, how much is Core 2 going to cost, i mean just the cpu by itself and where can i get them? and can anyone give me a link or explain to me what is new Santa Rosa thing about?
Thanks again! -
Core 2 Duo will cost the same clock for clock as the Core Duo's are selling now. Meaning the 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo will cost the same as a 2.0GHz Core Duo.
Santa Rosa is Intel's new platform for the 2007 mobile market. It has improvements over the current Napa platform, but most importantly it has support for 800Mhz FSB which will help release the potential of Core 2 Duo.
From the benchmarks that are out on the internet; Core 2 Duo offers only marginally, if not the same, performance in games on a 667MHz FSB. But in encoding and content creation it is about an average of 10-15% faster than Core Duo. -

The difference between the Core Duo and the Core 2 Duo is not that big . . I doubt you would notice a difference between the two.

Wow, thanks for all the information, guys. especially info on the performance. So Chaz or anyone, would you guys recomm that i go ahead get now?
I prob could just use my roommate's computer (his is my best friend) or bring my old slow dell desktop to the dorm. so i could just wait untill the end of this month or beginning of September.
This will be my first laptop and a big investment for me. so plz excuse me for being a bit Granny like. LOL.
Also, is there any Sager N5760 review in NBR yet? i thought i did saw one before in here, however, i can't find it any more.
Thanks once again guys. -
You will probably be waiting until about October at the earliest to get a Merom NP5760. I'm guessing the first shipment of Meroms are already sold out.
So if you do buy a Core Duo laptop, I would suggest you get some good use out of it before you even consider upgrading it. Otherwise you end up buying 2 processors and only using one of them. Chances are, the Core Duo will get you through until you are thinking about getting a whole new system--and then Merom will the be the "old technology".
You won't really need 64-bit for at least a couple of years unless you really need to be an early adapter for everything. -

Seem to me the M90 is a better choose, but i really like the Sager.
i know i should of post this other forum but ...
Once again, thanks for all the help! -
For gaming the sager is better, for technical stuff like CAD go for the dell. Though, you can still get that same graphics card (FX Quadro) on the sager. Prices are about the same after all's said and done.

Hey guys, Anandtech released a nice article comparing Yonah and Conroe.

Can't hurt to wait, but buying now for upgrade - unadviseable. Performance gap is too small. So go ahead, do you good, buy now!.
-
since you mentioned wanting a gaming GPU in an earlier post, I would not get the quadro card at all. the Quadro series is not for gaming at all, it is very specifically designed for CAD and design duties. not only that, but many games will not have support for a quadro card (you can often hack it or get an unofficial tweak that will make the game think its a geforce go 7900)...
not to mention, the gf 7900gtx should run CAD programs very well, just not as well as a quadro.
if you plan to do any significant amount of gaming, do not get a quadro. just my 2 cents -

Considering that the Quadro FX 2500M is a Go7900GTX with a few modifications, I agree you're better off sticking with the GeForce for games, since it comes standard.

Thanks for all the advises and the helps guys. SORRY for not showing up. I was out of town and can't get on the internet. I took a small trip to North and lets just said that New York City is awful HOT (temperture).
Anyway, as for my decisions on the laptop. I just brought a Dell M90 from the Dell Outlet. It cost around 1800 before tax and i don't remember all of the specs. However, from what i recall, it is pretty good, have the 512mb of video card and a 2.00ghz of core duo.
I went on the dell website and check for the shipping date, it said 17th of this month. Hopefully i will get it before that.
I will give you guys an update once i recieve it.
Once again, Thanks for all of the helps guys! -
Hey guys, my laptop just came yesterday! and so far i LOVE it! My first impression of the Dell M90 is- It is freaking HUGE!
Anyway, thanks for all of the helps and here are the specs:
Window XP pro, 17 inch WUXGA, 2.16 Ghz, 2 GB of ram, NVIDIA Quadro® FX 2500M, 80 GB of hard drive, Bluetooth and all of it for $1805 before tax.
Although it didn't came with many junks. I will most likely to reformat, and i will try to follow South Girl's guide very carefully. So, I would like couple of advices for the formatt part.
Once again, thanks for all the hleps
Anyone know when will Sager start having Merom?
