Anyone looked at their clevo 7970M power circuitry?

Strange, I wonder if that specific card is screwed or was purposely made that way? Looks like the circuit would be messed up.

Its possible all those points are connected on the PCB anyway but it could interfere eventually.

So is that a bodge job fix to one of the faulty cards do you think?

I'll have a look at mine over the weekend.

work......youre lucky the card not shorted & burn, so those capacitors is in the same circuit, but might sill in danger
    faulty......rma it, insist a replacement
not yet tested......dont even test it but rma it, insist a replacement

Very poor soldering, way too much solder there, also if you look at the other big caps.
From the pics I made of my 7970m I can't tell for sure whether they're supposed to be connected electrically. Would need to test it with a multi.
Even if the card works, it's possible that this isn't supposed to be like this and makes your card running less stable, shorten the life of other components on the PCB etc.

Oh I could, but is it intentional? Also I would like to keep my warranty for now thanks.

I shipped my dell card off already so I can't test it with a multi meter.

Hmm, looks like the memory timings are 1250 MHz. The same memories used in the 6970M.

Ah you edited. Yep, same ram is used on all the 7970Ms so far. No samsung mem yet.

Of course the IMC is now good enough to take these memory chips to the limit.

Yeap. I would definitely OC them to 1250 MHz or 1300 MHz permanently through vBIOS flash.

    P.S.

I was too lazy to search for my own thread. So I wrote a bit of the post, posted so I could get the link from my sign and than completed the post.

Hey I just had a look at mine. It does not have that large blob of solder connecting the 3 components. However I also got an ohm meter and checked, they're connected on the board anyway. So nothing at all to worry about, might even be a miniscule benefit :p

What having a gigantic EM aerial spreading interference over the entire card?

    Right, you're welcome. ;)

Your ground won't spread EM interference, it's actually a bonus to have that extra solder in 99% of cases.

You may be quite right there, those may be the recycled cards which were never shipped out from the factory when the isntability issues were detected, now with updated components to stabilize them. (not that there's anything wrong with that, who would throw out perfectly good boards and dies)

It could be the problems were in these caps.

Did anyone get any resolution to this issue? I just received my 7970M and mine also has a blob of solder on those caps. Have all these cards been working properly?

Given the comments here that indicate a common junction using a multimeter on a board that doesn't have globs of solder on its caps, it's possible those with the extra solder were reworked by the manufacturer because the artwork for the boards was faulty from production. This happens from time to time with surface mounted components on multi-layered circuit cards and some vendors will simply create a bridge like the one evidenced here to fix the problem, or use wirewrap on the other side of the board. Yes, it's not a pretty fix, but it does work. It also reminds me of the trouble I had back in the early '90s as an engineering tech having just retired from the USAF. Took me some time to accept the shoddy quality of electronics produced for the masses vs. that of those produced for the military.

The card functioned perfectly normally, it's just not ace soldering and these parts seemed to be soldered separately to the rest.

Speculation was this batch had these parts replaced, it would be interesting to take a look at a newer 7970M clevo card.
