Hello all. I'm looking for a laptop stand that doesnt restrict the airflow . I like having it on a stand as i normally play games with a USB Mouse/ Keyboard in therefore the stand saved me from any kneck ache . I've been looking everywhere for one that doesnt have these ridiculous counter productive fans on/ too much flimsy plastic- but still can't find. At this rate i will just be going for some sort of stuck-together-cd-case- mod to keep it raised , but that probably wont cut it when i visit friends for LANS . Thanks in advance !

I would suggest the NotePal U3, you could remove the fans entirely and re-add them back later if you wanted them. -

I had best results with just a standard black adjustable stand and then placing tall ramsinks under the feet back and using electrical tape to secure them down (the stand is black).

Usually just propping the computer up, whether it is something under the back like you are doing now or with a pad with vents, helps a little bit. At least with the U3 (since it seems to be a popular one) is that you can place the fans under the vents on the bottom, since they can be reconfigured. It might help a little more than just having the computer propped up, but I don't think I would expect massive drops from it.

I am using the U3 right now with my NP8170 and can say that the angle is good enough for me (i.e. no need to elevate further) and the fans are a nice bonus provided you have a good power source; I am using a 5V/2A USB port from a USB 3.0 hub to power them and am getting slightly better temperatures.

so ultimately i need something that raises the back up and if i can get some fans that are directed on the bottom to create a good stream that is also a bonus. U3 looks good for both of those.

I built two stands for myself
One out of a "U" shaped cardboard base with raised back, cushions and textile upholstery from and old shirt....the other one is simpler, again thick cardboard base with 3 styrofoam legs (2 for the back on each side and the third is a long rectangle sitting under the laptop front part).
All in all, they work perfectly in keeping the laptop cool and scratch-free.
They look mighty ghetto, tho....jaybee83 likes this. -
haha u crack me up @b0b1man
loving that setup
btw, im going for cheap DIY and portable: using two large plastic bottle caps i got off my daily orange juice, voila! improved airflow, lower temps, nice angle for typing and maximum portability / invisibility

bottle caps seem to be the way to go for DIY. Just enough lift to help out, dirt cheap, and easy to replace.

I've got one of these:

There's a USB hub-less version.
Primary reasons I like it:
A) It's relatively small. My P750DM-G overhangs by only a couple of mm (the rubber feet still sit easily). It's pretty thin too (15mm). I actually fit it and the P750DM into my backpack with ease.
B) The underside is smooth (with feet in). So you can double it up as a lap-rest (ie. stable table). Useful if you're using your laptop on the couch as it won't dig into your legs.
C) Cheap as heck ($29 AUD)
I don't even use the fans or hub to be honest but they do work well (albeit only usb2 hub but the fans blow straight into the laptop intakes which is nice and are large and quiet). But we haven't had a really hot summer day here yet (Australia). -
A pile of books is also a good cooling stand lol..
Anyone me a decent laptop stand ? -P751DM- G
