Anyone run their 8170 with a lap cooler? Can you suggest one?

I just ordered an 8170, and I noticed the option to have it come with a cooler, however, I was wondering if anyone uses one/has seen one that is also large enough to be a mousing surface?

I plan on sitting in my recliner quite a bit while gaming, and the arm of the chair is kinda micro fiber-y (if that's a word) so it can track well, but it doesn't slide easily..

Anyhow anyone have some links to more information or anything?

You don't really need it since you already upgraded the IC Diamonond Thermal compound.
But if you really need one, this is the best suggestion.

While a good notebook cooler, this doesn't address the op's wants of having a cooling pad that is big enough to use his mouse on the cooling pads surface itself. To be honest, I don't think you will be able to find a notebook cooler that can double as a surface for your mouse as it would be kind of pointless to provide cooling to your mouse.

Is there any reason why you are not able to put a mousepad on top of the armrest? If the shape of the armrest does not accommodate a soft mousepad, perhaps you can put a hard surface down before the mousepad like a hardcover textbook or a thin block of wood.

In any case, I wish you the best of luck!

I use a cheap belkin cooler that I put a 120mm fan in, works pretty good. If you want a cooler that will accommodate a mouse I would suggest making your own. I agree that would be rather nice. Maybe I will make one out of some nice hard cherry or oak.

You know, that's not a horrible idea... I have never worked with wood in that way but I have also never had a reason to...

    Thanks for the idea =)

If you decide to build one, please post pics on the forums! I'm sure the community would love to see the finished product. :)

I'm personally always a fan of customized creations, so long as they work.

Some things i found on amazon.. Making your own would be better if youve got the time, tools abd money. While you can make your own for cheaper, i find that when i design something to suit my needs, it tends to get elaborate and detailed lol

Not sure if the first one would fit in between the arms of your chair as it has legs.. Amazon.com: New Laptop USB Folding Table W/ 2 Cooling Fan + Mouse Pad!: Office Products

    This ones interesting.. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VC9F0Q?ie=UTF8&ref=aw_bottom_links&force-full-site=1

Now I've got the itch to design my own :p

Hey, now that first one seems to be quite nice. Like those serving trays for breakfast in bed but for a laptop. :D
I never really spent much time searching for a laptop cooler, just bought a cheap one and it has served me well for the last 3 years...going on 4 years now.

I bought an sf-19, but I ended up selling it because it's massive, I don't think the cooling is as good as it should be, I never used the dumb lights, and the fans are pretty loud and make obnoxious noises the higher you turn them up.

Saying that, I did get another one. There was a kid who was gonna throw his away because the fans stopped working. Turns out they just came unplugged inside :p it's literally brand new. he gave me the cables and the box to go with it lol.. I don't use it on my lap though.

For that I have just a regular black lap desk that has two additional surfaces that pivot out from the bottom. No fans, nothing fancy. It was a bit scratched up, but it was $3 on clearance at Target lol. It made of wood and it's super sturdy after I tightened up the hinges for the side surfaces.

I have the notepal U3 and it works great, you can move the fans to both vents and 1 more for the battery.
