    Hey guys.

I'm considering buying this Cube Chameleon laptop. I've been told this is the Clevo W355SS. The laptop itself is actually coming from Box, which is listed in the Clevo resellers thread listed in this forum.

I just wanted to know if anyone had used a Cube laptop before, or failing that if anyone could give me some feedback on the W355SS in general. Chassis quality, cooling/overheating, and also speakers are quite important. I'm not expecting anything special from laptop speakers, some are respectable but for example I bought a Skyfire from PCSpecialist and they had less bass than my iPhone speakers, really metallic and poor quality. Clevo models seem to be the way to go in terms of bang for buck though. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have this laptop, trying to be fair, the speakers are adequate but nothing worth praising about, they will probably be the same as PC specialist laptops, I'm guessing they are both just rebrand of clevo. Plus side of the speakers is the software enhancements SB Cinema, makes the sound quite a bit better. But compared to my previous laptops 5920g and l702x the quality is definetly inferior.

Now the laptop CPU and GPU are what I'd call excellent but everything else in the laptop are probably just adequate, the WiFi card is advertised as N spec but its not. It's a good base for upgrading, upgrading it to ssd and WiFi ac spec and the laptop flies. It's got 3 memory slots 2 HDD/ssd slots which is quite good for a 15inch very upgradable.

At stock the laptop temps are adequate but, I did a repaste on mine and got a huge difference in temps and overclockabilty. The factory paste job was terrible... Flashing prema BIOS allows CPU overclock past stock limit. I pushed my CPU to 35x multiplier with no problems. 760 on gpu core of the 860m gpu (stock 540) and it stayed under 68c. I got it at launch which at the time it had 16gb ram for the existing price now with only 8gb? It does have backlight keyboard which is cool.

Thanks for the feedback. Mine should be arriving tomorrow so I'll wait and see on the speakers. I saw today there is a 16gb RAM version for just £30 more, so I feel pretty stupid for not getting that! I don't think 8gb RAM will be a problem though for a year or two, I'm only using it for light gaming, and I understand with an SSD, RAM is even less of an issue. As you say, it should be easily upgradeable to 16gb, though I don't think I'll be able to find 8gb RAM for as cheap as £30 anywhere!

How long have you had yours for? Any issues?

Amount of RAM is not bottlenecked by SSD or HDD. If you are running out of RAM, then you would need more RAM. This is, however, only if the number of programs you use surpasses 8GB of total system RAM, which is unlikely for a lot of people.

SPEED of RAM is another thing, but once you have 1600MHz you're pretty much doing just fine. So you should not worry about that.
