Don't you guys void the warranty applying the paste yourself?
-
-
Din't know that. I know I would in my current laptop, that's why I was confused.

-
Well to get to the CPU and GPU I have to remove the sticker and the sticker says "Removing it will void the warranty".

More temps for X23 after (and during) running 3dmark06 3 times with youtube and other websites also running on dual monitor.
Ambient Temp: 19C
GPU at Load: 70C (it went as high 73C)
CPU at Load: 62C (it went as high as 66C)
now, 10 min after runs, with just websites running in background:
GPU temp: 52C
CPU temp: 45C
I guess that's a win?
what do you think Fluffy? Thats 12C over what you said your GPU idles at. -
Well the my idle was a cold start, and I cant remember the correct temps they were purely a guess, I will have popper temps for you in a week. They look good man considering your first time I think you did well (should be proud).
Overall well done. They look goodWhat method did you use. Just so people can compare?

from the way it looked before i put the heat sink down you might have guessed a 3 year old did some finger painting with x23 and just happened to land it on parts of my cpu and gpu. originally what i was trying to do was put a dab and spread it around a bit...maybe using some very small dabs around the periphery, then putting a slightly larger dab in the middle. the idea being that the dab in the middle smooshes and removes air bubbles that spreading would leave, while the peripheral dabs and awful spread job would ensure good coverage of the unit. i did this for both, then when placing the heat sink back on I added some extra pressure to help squish it. also I put the x23 in a hot bath (boiled water and melted the plastic bag that i put my syringe in) before use to lower viscosity.
-
AHAH funny! I dont think I would have spread then added a dot for pressure. but sounds like you made it work.

Earl - Good temps overall. Our CPU is close (mine is a tad lower) but your GPU temps are better then mine. I average in the 80's with my GPU playing a game overclocked. Have you tried any OC yet?
-
I have not tried to OC...i dont know how
...also how do you tell when your CPU switches from quad to dual to single core? or when it is using turbo boost? i know its suppose to just do that on its own...but whenever i run the diagnostics program that shows the cpu's temps and functionallity it looks like they are all 4 running all the time....i would assume games like Assassin's creed are not written to use all 4 cores...so it should switch to dual...but maybe im wrong
-
If you want to measure your CPU's turbo boost usage then google 'Intel turbo boost monitor' and you should be able to download an app.
R.E the overclocking, its rather very simple and can be done using some ATI/Nvidia tools look for a thread on here, im sure there is one on how to do it. -
@fluffy
I thought the whole point of the i7 was that it ran 4 units, take the 820 for example, at 1.7ghz, 2 at 2.4ghz and 1 at 3ghz with turboboost...or something like that... -
-
You can watch it being used with that Intel monitor its pretty cool. Im sorry I was un-informed However I tohught all cores ran but just at limited clocks

Just use an old tshirt to wipe off all of the thermal paste. The cleaning solution is only used for getting the remaining residue left over by the thermal paste off the die. It should not be used to break apart the thermal paste when you first take off the heatsink as that would be a waste of time and cleaning solution.

A white T-shirt? LoL
I just have a special white piece of cloth made of cotton. -
-
yes, glad to see you back Sunrise
Fluffy, when are those temps coming!? i want to compare. -

I'll give anyone +1 rep if they can identify the "alternate" Soviet Sunrise and the posts I made while I was on my "vacation." And no, I don't mean my messenger 5150Joker. -
So 90% > 70% -

It's not like the user is going to leave the water or any liquid traces behind on the die. The Arcticlean solutions composition has more water in them than alcohol.
