Hey All,
I just got a new 5796 and it shipped with a silver looking liquid in a small syringe (#GFC-M7). If arctic silver is already installed on my system (which I hope it is), then why do I need the backup? In case I reinstall the GPU or CPU? Should I be reapplying it after 2 or 3 years of use? Thanks!

As Shyster1 says, Yup!
Thermal paste will degrade with use, like everything else, so my guess would be, that its extra for ie. reinstalling GPU or CPU as you say your self and for reapplying after some time of use. I dont recall what the approx. degrading time normally is, but after what I recall, it has a settleing time of about a month of regular use, so its not something you like to do under normal cleaning
A good guess would be reapplying thermal paste around every 1½-2 years with normal use of the machine

Does the syringe you got look anything like this?
Call Sager and ask them specifically if they use genuine Artic Silver 5 like these resellers are telling you.
The answer will be, "No". What you got there is what they use. -
I'm note sure why my post got deleted for asking for clarification. I wasn't trying to troll or anything, I just really didn't know that you needed to re-apply this stuff. but thanks M3z3iAs for clearing this up for me.
This is my first notebook and I didn't want to ruin over a newbie mistake... -
). But, in some occations, overheating issuses can occur over time, which cleaning dosent fix, there it can sometimes be the thermal paste that needs reapply
So unless you begin having overheating issuses, which I doubt will happen, then I personally wouldnt mess with it
