Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm new to the whole Clevo-based laptop thing and I'm still sorting out who is who, who is a manufacturer versus a reseller of completed laptops, etc.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-p151hm1-should-i-buy-xoticpcs-malibal-2.html

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/549306-xoticpc-vs-malibal-sager-8130-a-2.html

These comments seemed contradictory to me (or maybe they're not contradictory, and I'm just not understanding a distinction here?). Both Justin and Malibal are well-respected members who know what they're talking about. I'm just curious about the paths these laptops take from Clevo to Sager and/or Malibal to the end customer, etc.

Yeah, they both use the same chassis provided by Sager/Clevo. Malibal uses the Clevo line.

I have a question. So do the resellers get the barebone...and then put the parts in...or do they get the order-send it to Clevo/Sager, and Sager puts all together, and delivers completed notebook to reseller?

I may be wrong but I THOUGHT it worked that Clevo makes the barebones laptops and sells them to people like Sager and MALIBAL who put their own components in. I thought XoticPC bought the re-branded barebones from Sager and put there stuff in it.

Is that even close to being right?

From my reading of the forum posts, a true reseller like Xotic doesn't touch the laptop; it goes to the purchaser directly from Sager (unless there is something special done, e.g., a custom skin - maybe a screen upgrade). A builder like Mythlogic gets the shell (perhaps from Sager) and puts in their own components and tests it, so all machines goes through Mythlogic and then goes to the purchaser. I have read that Malibal is more like a reseller though they rebrand it (also warranties may be different), but they may do more things than Xotic but fewer things than Mythlogic.

Mythlogic is wholesale as well. Malibal gets their from them IIRC.

In the end, everybody is basically recieving the same thing anyway, despite where it comes from whether it be from Sager, Eurocom, Mythlogic, RJTech, etc. (the distibutors/wholesalers of Clevo that I know of).

Actually the great majority of the resellers / dealers that post here have the machines built by Sager. Sager is the largest importer of Clevo.

In North America, there are only 2 companies who buy directly from Clevo...

    Sager
    Eurocom

All other resellers buy from one of these two companies and are what could be referred to as "Second Tier" resellers. Second Tier is not meant to be used in a derogatory way as many of these “Second Tier” resellers are excellent! (for instance MythLogic!)

Some resellers prefer to take the hands on approach and only buy shells from the "First Tier" so they can build and maintain them themselves; others drop ship fully configured units from these companies.

The same goes with service. Some of these "Second Tier" resellers do their own service where as others simply have the unit shipped back to where it was ordered from.

If you want to know which you’re favorite Clevo reseller is, simply ask them!

    Hope this was helpful!

    Thanks

What about RJTech? They seem to offer chassis and barebones kits as well as complete laptops from Clevo and not only fully built Sager/Eurocom models. Eurocom is in Canada right? Why is Eurocom's Canadian pricing higher than the American pricing when the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US dollar? That is one reason I avoided Eurocom and bought a Sager from Fortnax.

I cannot speak for RJ Tech however, I do know they do not buy from Eurocom so that only leaves Sager. Their fully configured units come from Sager so I would imagine they get their barebones shells from there also.

Unfortunately, the prices on our website are not within my control. All I can do is try to give you the best price possible when or if you contact me.

    Thank You!

I'm not in USA but I think that resellers either take barebones without brand from Sager then build it and brand it their selves, or they take whole system already branded Sager and resell it. But I thought also that there was another Clevo barebone distributer than Sager in USA.

As noted, if you're interested in learning where a certain company gets their computers from, ask them. This thread is closed.
