I've noticed a few posts here mentioning swapping out their Nvidia cards for ATI cards. Is this possible for all Clevo models? Do both companies use the same MXM types, and have the same size physically ?
I have a 9260 (in sig), so I realise the chances are minimal, especially since I can't apparently use even a 8800GTX card without a MoB upgrade, but I'm curious about my model and more recent Clevo models.

in general both VGA Manufacturers are using the same MXM Standard.
At this moment all Clevo High End Modells are shipping with MXM 3.0.
The only limitation is Thermal and Bios, probably Clevo hardware, but that shouldn´t be the case -
Thanks.
Has anyone here actually swapped out a Nvidia for a ATI card?
I would be interested in knowing what cards were swapped and the model of the Clevo.
I'm guessing a lot of other people would also be interested in the answers as well. -
I tried installing a ATI Radeon Mobility 3870 into my M860TU/M860ETU on multiple occasions, but it didn't work. Seems the BIOS didn't support it.

Many have swapped out the GTX 280M, GTX285M or the GTX 260M for the ATI 5870. Some had good results while others found issues from poor contact of the new 5870 heatsink with the GPU DIE. Aside from that, the existing BIOS was already able to recognise the upgrade without needing an update and when it worked, it worked well. This was for the laptop in my sig.

Does anyone know how to add VGA microcode to notebook Bios?

Will work if the MXM slot is the same, can provide enough electricity to the card and the bios supports it.
Example: For the D900F all upgrades are currently possible, since it has the MXM 3.0b slot, can provide 100w (quadro 3800m, gtx 480m use 100w), which is enough for all current cards and just the heatsink needs to be reworked in order to properly cool the ati card (mobility 5870).
Are Nvidia and ATI GPUs interchangeable in Clevo machines
