When i first got the laptop 5 months ago, my GPU(6990M) temps never went above 89 degrees celsius, but lately whenever I play games, (world of tanks, battlefield 3, diablo 3) my GPU temps are really high. They are between 95-98 degrees celsius and once it even went it up to 102 degrees celsius! I do clean the fans for dust a couple times a month
Is it normal? And is there anything else I can do besides cleaning the fans and heatsinks for dust?

Yeah, could need a repaste. Check your fans are working properly as well.

    It's stock paste
I don't know how to check if the fans are working properly, but they seem to be okay, and when the temps are around 97, the fans spin 100%, just like pressing fn+1.
And my idle temps are around 54-56

You would normally expect below 50 for idle. I would repaste.
If both fans are spinning up, that wouldn't be the problem.
Also have a look if the heat sinks are held on firmly. I had a laptop a while back where one of the screws broke on the heatsink. Lucky I noticed before it burnt out.

Repasting is always the most likely of issues when you're experiencing overly warm temps. If you repaste and your issue is not fixed, it could definitely be a hardware problem. I WOULD say that since the GPU is kinda old, playing new games might make it run hotter since they are more graphic intensive than older games... but since you said that your idle temps are hotter than usual as well, sounds like something is wrong.. :/ Let us know if you figure it out!

The age of the gpu wouldn't matter here. It's only just been replaced, and it could easily have been maxed out with older games. It simply shouldn't be running at those temps.
