    Hello,

I apologize if there is already a thread dedicated to this.
I tried searching the site, but could not find anything definitive.

Simply placed, are there any IPS displays compatible with the 17" sized clevo/sagers?

I really like the Sager and Clevo computers, but I didn't see any of the 17" models with IPS displays. I wouldn't mind doing it myself if it was simple enough (a couple screws, unplug and plug might be my limit though).

I do not think there are any IPS screens in 17.3" currently offered that we have heard of people installing after market. I know for sure none are offered by Sager.

Apparently there is some LG screen as you might have seen in the other thread... however I wish to point out that it will be:
25ms response time (please note 16.67ms or less is required for colours to fully change between frames on a 60Hz screen)
Only 60% NTSC Gamut (in contrast to 72% NTSC gamut matte screens and 90% NTSC gamut glossy screens one can use these days)

Therefore, it is TERRIBLE for gaming, and unless you absolutely 100% need the IPS panel for some reason, it might be better to get one of the better TN panels.

I believe www.mySN.co.uk will be fitting the XMG U705 with an IPS 17.3" screen sometime later this month

No news from Sager, they tend to keep things to themselves until the day they are ready to order. We really don't get any information from them ahead of time.

Between official support, availability, and sometimes NDAs, it can be difficult to get (and for resellers to give) anything definitive. Currently there isn't much scuttlebutt about any official 17" IPS panels hitting current Clevo models.

Thank you very much for the replies.

I've been tossed back and forth between the Clevos and an AW17r2. I especially like the Clevo P770zm and the Clevo P670SE.
It's the IPS really. I do more photos and graphics than games, so I would like to try out an IPS and the AW17 does have most of what I need.
However, I also really like everything about the sagers/clevos. They have everything I need and want - except for the IPS screen.
Trying to patiently wait and see, but it's been 22 days since I've been laptop-less ( oh my. only 22? feels so much longer)
Maybe I'm being too impatient? I'm sure there are many other people who have waited much longer for new stuff to be released.

doesn't mythlogic have an IPS 72% gamut screen available as an option? the price is higher there though. though probably better than alienware.

The last time I asked them, they said they've been using Chi Mei TN panels recently, including the 72% ones .......

A TN may not be so bad if this is the case, considering the ones used in P770ZM are decent screens. Decisions, decisions!

Honestly, if the colour representation is what you are after, Mythlogic's 72% TN panel should be just fine. You can even ask them what kind of panel it is (right now if you want) and then look it up on Panelook.com and see if it's good for you @Logispice

If 15" is enough for you, why not get the P750ZM with 15.6" LG IPS screen? Do you need 17"?

I don't really need 17" but I kinda of really really want it.
My old laptop was 15" and I started to hit some limits with the work space it gave me.
I never really considered 17" though until I started looking at the AW17 line for the number pad, 900m, and IPS screen but then the larger screen really started to appeal to me.
Then I was told about Sager/Clevo and the desire for a 17" just kind of stuck with me and carried over.
I actually really like the 90% NTSC TN panel that EuroCOM offers, but I would prefer a matte screen.
Ahaha, so much thought into a notebook, but then again, these notebooks become such a staple in our daily activities. Like a little electronic partner in life :p
I think, if I will invest up to $2000 USD in my next notebook, I would like for it to have the things I want it to.
I've been told that EuroCOM might pick up new panels for 17.3 this month, so I'm going to wait and see another 1-2 weeks and think a little bit more on this in the meantime.
But I really should have something before March is over. I have a desktop build and an ipad, but my productivity goes up when working on a notebook in comparison.

I didn't consider Mythlogic because of the price difference, but I just noticed they include some things that the other providers offer at additional cost. I'll give them another look and crunch out some of the numbers. I'm not so certain about the chi mei panels though

    Too many decisions! :p

As far as I know, you get a mostly-unlocked BIOS (as they are partnered with Prema) and you get colour calibration profiles for free for the monitor you buy too.
As for the Chi Mei; feel free to ask them what the name of the panel is. Unlike ASUS, they know what panels they sell, so you can question them and see if you can select a panel you'd want.

Yeah, they are more expensive, but sometimes they just offer things out the box that are worth it I guess. I'm quite glad my BIOS is open, I'll give ya that one. And I've grown to love the softer colours in the icc profile.

17" is well worth it, especially for gaming. I find it's easier for example to get a headshot, for RPG games just more immersive feel.

The ChiMei screen isn't that bad. Brightness could be improved and contrast. But I prefer this 72% over the AUO 95% 15" I used before just because the colors aren't saturated in, pretty much all applications that ignore ICC Profile. Having a sRGB panel is just a lot easier. That's really all I would want from this screen, brighter and better contrast, and if color accuracy is off, fix that. I have no intentions of calibrating this screen, going to leave it as is.

The LG IPS is unacceptable for me. 25ms response is atrocious and I refuse to use something like that for 2015 gaming. That's just not acceptable for a gaming laptop. Desktop IPS are different since there are 5ms gaming ready IPS.

From what I've found, if you set defaults to your ICC profile in windows both for ALL monitors attached and for default windows usage then restart the computer, it should keep the calibration even when fullscreening/using programs that normally switch to windows' default colour profiles. At least, that's what I found worked for me. Note I have no Optimus and nVidia GPUs. AMD GPUs don't have the ICC profile switch issue that most nVidia people have. And I honestly came across the "fix" by accident. But feel free to give it a try if you wish.

That was on my old machine with switchable graphics. And I did what you suggested, doesn't work.

On your current machine? Well then I guess I just lucked out. Or maybe it only works with two monitors. *shrugs*

All I know is I get the colours in BF4 and stuff that usually triggered the switch back to windows default and I keep the ICC profile running when I do that.
