Are there any overheating issues with the 5797, or is it only with the 8662...

hearing how the HD gets really hot and how a notebook cooler is HIGHLY recommended for the 8662, it's really off-putting... i'd rather spend $300 more and get a larger notebook such as the 5797 that offers more cooling space inside and better circulation...should i do this and just get the 5797 or does it come with its own issues also?

This laptop is ice cold stock clocks with a P series. A cooler is unecessary really, but won't hurt if you're a heavy overclocker and plan on getting an extreme cpu.

I have an M860ETU and never used a laptop cooler, and never will.
Hdd temps never go over 53c, cpu 60c and gpu 77c
That is gaming for 2hours with a demanding game.
Idle is 45c hdd, 30c cpu, 45c gpu.

I bought this laptop for portability, and a laptop cooler isn't what I call something portable.

I undervolted the cpu, and I can just monitor temps here and there to make sure everything is fine. But this laptop runs great.
You gotta understand that almost everyone who has something wrong with the laptop posts in NBR, whereas people having great experiences don't post so often..
To be honest, the only thing that convinced me to get this laptop is portability. 17'' is just too much for me. So if you don't mind having a 17'', then I think the NP5797 is a better choice, even if it is a little bit pricier. It will run cooler that's for sure.

I also have an 8662, I think that statement is quite unfair.
Initially, I thought my CPU temps were a tad high but they were very far from dangerous. The 8662 has just been released and I am sure that things were rushed a bit at the factory in this very busy period for them, for that reason I just had the thermal paste changed and now it is with 0 problems.

I will be honest and say that I did go out and buy a notebook cooler for this laptop, but that is because the temperatures here really spiked this week and it was blazing hot. Im talking about 35+ C here and I have no air conditioning, and still the most worrying temp I had was that the HDD reached 62C... very far from dangerous.

I know there might be more posts about the 8662 being hot, but that is because there are a lot more people with the 8662 and than 5797. There is really nothing wrong at all with this laptop.

a number of people around me have the M860TU/ETU... none of them have HDD heat issues at all... they all have chosen to get WDs, but also made sure to update the SATA drivers and disable the background services/apps that's accessing the HDD needlessly.

I have a seagate, 7200. Average temp during heavy gaming is 55C, no more than 60C. I do have central AC, room temp 21-23C or 70-75F(approx).

    I got a Hitachi 320GB @ 7200
In a room with a temperature of about 35C :O I had a max temp after Crysis of 62C but when the temp here is about 25-30C then the max temp is about 55C.
Honestly, I feel you dont have to worry about heat issues
