Are there any upcoming 15.6" models with the GT555m?

I've been looking at the NP5160 and honestly it seems like my top choice, especially given Sager/Clevo build quality. But since there's still some time until the SB fixes are due, so I've been wondering if there has been any news about new laptops with the GT 555m GPU that Sager will be stocking.

I think GPU switching and battery life are pretty much key for me. They're the main reasons I've been looking at the NP5160. But I want something that can handle games pretty well and the 540m doesn't seem like a major contender in that case. I only really plan to game while I have the laptop plugged in, otherwise I'd be using it for work or casual things like videos, chat, and the like.

Keep an eye on the CeBIT expo starting on the 1st.. Clevo is supposedly revealing new stuff as well as ASUS and MSI..

Oh! I wasn't even aware of CeBIT being right around the corner. Thanks.

While I'm here I'll just ask: can the NP5160 take advantage of that external PCI-E box/GPU, ViDock? Doesn't seem like it could with only USB

Chances of Clevo revealing new machines during the rest of CeBIT?

Or should I just go ahead with the NP5160

Doesn't seem like it.. Plus even if you order, you won't be getting it for at least another 2 weeks. So you can get in line and if some miracle does happen, you just cancel and change.

Someone said in a different thread that the new clevo notebooks would more likely be coming out 2012

I am in the exact same boat as you. The 5160 is perfect for me, besides the GT540m. That's the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger. I've been trying as hard as humanly possible to be patient and wait to see what else comes out :p

Damn, any chance of an update of the 5160?

How long is the battery life on the 8130 btw, for casual use. 2-3 hours?

The biggest problem with video cards is that they can vary a lot, even if two laptops have the same name (ie. GT 555M). Need to know if it's GDDR3 or GDDR5, since the latter doubles memory bandwidth and sets it apart from a mainstream card to a fairly high end one.

Well, so far the only laptop listed with the 555m seems to be the new XPS 17 3D. But how long does the 8130 last for light work/browsing and idling?

Check the reviews in the owner's lounge. Consensus seems to be between 2.5 and 3.5 hours.

When do you think will be the next time Clevo releases new models? I know there are a few new GPUs headed up for summer but what big events are there that they may show off?

Resellers here have stated they do not expect new Clevo models until Q4 of this year.

If I had to guess, new models won't be till next year when Ivy Bridge drops. Keep in mind though that as long as power requirements are met (most likely they are) Sager could easily just plop in a GPU as long as its a MXM variety. So, new GPUs won't be a problem.

Well, that's a different story. The 51X0 models cannot be upgraded and if I had to bet on it, I would say that no new models will be released this year in that specific product line. If you want easily upgradability, you would have to go to the 81X0 models.

Think Clevo will have any refreshes or updates for the GPUs in the 51x0s?

Well, everyone gets their stuff from Clevo, so if they offered a new model, Sager would carry it.
Now, unless nvidia releases the 600m series anytime soon, I don't see the 51X0 line being updated till Q4 or even Q1 2012

Hmm...we need a list of FHD 15.6" laptops that have either the GT 550m or 555m. Asus has just specced their N53SN to have FHD screen AND a GT 550m...makes me want to wait.

I'd say give the market about 2 months before the GT 555m will start showing up in 15.6 inch laptops, WITH FHD. Not like that Y570 with their non 1080p, damn them!

Just wait til SB starts pouring into laptops, then we'll start seeing a lot more configuration options and models. At least I sure do hope so. Otherwise, I'm gonna be one not so happy camper.

Deviltech are selling a laptop with gt 555m and SB at first i thought it was the np5160 but i guess it could be a new model,,, by the way how bad are the sager glossy screens outside because the only options for screen are 1600x900 matte and 1920x1080 glare screen.

check out MSI GE620dx mates :) it will have GT555M but not many detailed specs around so far...

I wonder if the video card will be based on DDR3 or DDR5 memory...
