Guys I need some help here,

Since I've installed the 13.8 drivers for the HD7970M I've been getting artifacts every time I go to windows and back to a game. If I restart the game the artifacts are gone, also if I don't go back to windows it seems not to happen.

I've also repasted recently as my graphics card was getting 103ºc with the paste it came from the store, atm it doesn't go over 75ºc with 99% utilization.

I though it was a problem with world of tanks but it is happening on league of legends too. Have these drivers did this to any one else or is it a problem with my card?

EDIT: Mistaken the drivers version it was 13.8 beta2, sorry.

Can some one give me an idea of what I'm looking at here?

Should I go to the store and ask for a replacement? Is the card faulty or is it just a drivers issue?

    Advices are appreciated ^^

I just tried installing the drivers you suggested and the problem seems to be gone but...

The performance drop is absurd, I lost at least 15 fps in game probably 20. MSI Kombustor (ball) stress test went from avg 71 fps to avg 39 fps, also although it reports 98% utilization the tmp will not increase from 44ºc while before it would rise at least up to 80ºc

Also MSI Afterburner reports that the GPU clock will not go over 450MHZ and the memory clock is stuck at 300 MHZ but it reports 98% utilization

If you're measuring those clocks in MSI Afterburner, bare in mind that in order for it to recognize the 7970m and not the Intel HD4000 you have to be using the 7970m (with a game or a certain application that uses it).

I'm sorry i can't be of any more help.

I'm measuring this by running a stress test on kombustor first, then opening up Afterburner, Hwinfo64 and open hardware monitor, all of them report the same info.

Thank you for the try though ^^

If any one else had a clue of what is wrong please help :x

    Now I have 2 ideas.
    1) disable AMD ULPS

    2) Install again 13.8 beta 2 ( dont uninstall curren driver , just over it , but uninstall CAP , bc they already in 13.8)

And I did what you said, kombustor now does 60fps on stress test but I get no readings in any program even the catalyst control center reports that kombustor is running on power savings, although I doubt the HD4000 can pull out those fps ><

After reboot (done nothing but reboot) Readings are back but the fps dropped to 40 again in the stress test, also it still reports 450 MHZ + 300 MHZ

I'm starting to think I should try a fresh windows install, can it be old drivers left over files or some conflict? It feels like the software is limiting the clocks on the GPU for some reason

Well tried reinstalling the windows, the GPU is now working at the right clocks (13.8 beta 2 drivers) and the stress test is back at the 71~73 fps, I'll check too see if I still get artifacts.
    Let's hope not ><

I just tried updating my drivers today as well. I'm not sure about other games, but something about any driver newer than 13.1 gives me the exact same issue in WOT. It's not just you.

I've just tried playing wot in this new windows install and it seems to be fixed. I'm running the 13.8 beta2.

I'll leave some more feed back after more extensive testing, but it seems it might be some left over files from older drivers causing the issues.

Good to hear that it's working, usually if a card was that "dead" and artifacting it would not last long so it did not seem like a hardware issue.

Yeah it definitely doesn't seem to be. I've tried a few times to update from 13.1 and had this issue. Couldn't really be bothered to figure it out as everything works fine on older drivers. It's just world of tanks that has the issue though. I hope OP has found a solution :)

Yeh It seems to be a conflict with left over files form previous drivers. Take in mind I cleaned up every thing in my last windows install, including registry keys and appdata etc and still had the issue...

So far I've yet to have an issue with this new windows install. Hope this helps some one else with the same problem.

@JMCD23 I also had issues with League of Legends that's why I though it could be more serious :/

Cheers. I'm not sure I'm ready to do a new install (ended up doing one a few months back because of this problem as well). I don't play much besides WOT so it's probably not worth my time right now. Good to know there is a solution!

    Thanks JMCD23 ^^

Btw guys, I have a stupid question, I have an application that Catalyst locked as power saving and I might need it to run on high performance, is there any way to unlock the application? (it's Media player classic, I use it to watch some 1080p 10 bits encodes, with cccp, and I'm afraid there might be times where the HD4000 wont be able to keep up...)
