Hey, I've been looking for a gaming laptop recently and after visiting these forums I've been interested in Clevo laptops... the M57RU and D900 in particular.

The only ones in australia I can find are metabox and pioneer computers... they seem to be overpriced compared to Dell's xps line. Can anyone help me find a Clevo laptop that is sold in australia with a comparable price and specs to the Dell XPS M1730 on offer here for $3899?

    http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m1730?c=au&cs=audhs1&l=en&s=dhs

The Metabox laptops were providing some competition until a few days ago, the update to the XPS model appears to completely blow them out of the water in specs/value from all the Clevo resellers I could find:

    www.p4laptops.com.au
    www.affordablelaptops.com.au
    www.itchannel.com.au
    www.pioneercomputers.com.au

    ...and a couple more websites.

Any help finding some viable alternative to the XPS M1730 would be appreciated, not because i don't like the XPS (I have purchased several Dells before and have been happy with them) but because I want to make sure I get the most I can out of my laptop purchase :D

    Thanks in advance :D

Yeah, but they use USPS (which is not great for international shipments) and you get charged with taxes in Australia, making an import not such a wise choice.
If you want portability you can get a M57xRU-U. If not go for the Dell.

For laptops from the US, Australian Customs just charge 10% GST on the value of the imported goods, which is really no different to the local Australian re-seller including 10% GST in their price.

At the moment, if I buy a D901C from XoticPC and import it then the landed cost (including international shipping, GST and other customs charges) works out about AUD$500-$900 cheaper (depending on prevailing exchange rate) than buying the same specs from a local Australian Clevo re-seller.

$500 extra is probably bearable for local support, but if the Aussie Dollar keeps climbing and the difference is more like $900+, then the decision gets harder.
