I have an NP9170 and there was a windows update for the Authentec Fingerprint scanner a day or two ago and I updated it. Now I can't log into my computer using the fingerprint scanner. I tried going into the Authentec software and didn't even see any information for windows logon there. In the control panel I finally tried removing the biometric data and that at least changed things. Now when I go into Authentec it asks me to enroll and I follow the steps and when it asks for the second swipe of the same finger I cannot get it to work. The red bar keeps going over and then it says "it looks like you're having trouble would you like to try again?" and if I say yes the same thing happens and if I say no it just exits the program. If I go back into biometric devices from the control panel and click "Use your fingerprint with Windows" it just opens the Authentec suite and the whole rigamarole starts again.

I know the next troubleshooting step would probably be to remove the program and reinstall the original one from Sager but has anyone encountered this and found a different resolution? Or any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You typically never want to install any driver updates from Windows Update. Almost always screw something up. You're best solution is to uninstall and reinstall and deal with the easy fix rather than trying to troubleshoot a problem that might not be able to be solved any other way.

I saw the update 2 days ago and I updates yesterday . Everything works fine here. If you have the problem re-install the software

If you haven't changed much else consider doing a system restore to just before you updated that, then of course don't do that update after.

fingerprint scanner on P150 can also be a bit iffy especially after going to sleep. works fine most of the time but after sleep it just doesnt want to work. that was until my fingers were getting so sore from trying that i licked my finger and since then it works every time.
so even though youve done a windows update its worth a try before a system restore. lick finger and try again. :D

I also installed this update and it made my scanner unusable. Go into device manager and roll back the driver. Worked for me.

it might do but she will need to cook you a meal first,do the laundry, dig the garden and cut the grass (unless you live on the 14th floor) and by then it should work for her as shes built up a sweat :D me going to hide now.

uninstalling and going back to the original driver from Sager fixed it for me. I hid the update in Windows update and forgot all about it.

BTW since this thread popped up again, I upgraded to Windows 8 and the driver provided by Sager for the fingerprint reader has the same problem for me as the one provided by Windows Update before. Uninstalling it and deleting the driver allows it to work but it's definitely annoying.

Thanks!!! That was bugging me most of the evening, didn't even think to remove the driver cos I figured it was just part of the windows default lol
