Alright guys, im loosing it here. My p150em w/7970m is arriving tomorow or wednesday. The only game i really plan on playing alot is BF3, Multiplayer of course and im really scared now, 75-20 dips just wont do it for me. Does anyone run multiplayer nice and consistent without any FPS drops or are all cards affected by this? sorry didnt have time to catch up on all the threads.
I am seriously considering just getting a 680m or ditching clevo alltogether and going for the m17x. anyone else thinking like me?
-
-
everyone's clevo EM series 7970m has that same problem, very annoying, if i could upgrade now and pay that extra $200 for 680m i definitely would.
-
How come the bf3 problem is only with clevo laptops?
-
i should wait for a month longer for 680m.
-
BF3 runs great for me with all settings on High/Ultra. Although it better for the price I paid for this laptop.
My advice would be to wait for the 680m. -
i dont have this problems at ultra
when I go down to high or medium the gpu utilization is going down and than some drops happen but rarelly
on ultra is 98% and no problems,
I had stock now 12.7 -
are you using the ultra preset? how many fps are you getting?
also we are talking multiplayer right? even caspian border? -
yes,multi around 50-60fps
but I have other issue which i dont like
keyboard is hard to type, must press hard and im getting max temp 85-90C in games
at that time fans spin fast likek crazy, hairdryer
reseller say its normal for this gpu -
well im using an external keyboard most of the time soo...
about the temperature try this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...0em-7970m-gpu-cooling-performance-foiled.html i wouldnt be comfortable with 90C.
the fans should go down with the temperature, but there is definetly a fan issue aswell you are right
i think most of the issues are enduro related except the keyboard... well im just gonna through bf3 onto it on the first day and see myself, as i only have a 14 day return policy... -
-
how does yours run? if that is, you have the game.
-
-
im looking at kombuster during game
i check frame,temp,gpu
if i lover setting than I will have that problem -
this kombuster trick, i only have to have the program open and in the background right?
-
how can you check kombuster during the game? do you run it in windowed mode?
if i lower or raise the detail it doesnt seem to make a difference, i still get nearly the same fps (though utilization is lower of course if detail is lowered because there is even less displayed on the screen) -
kombuster show info on screen
-
-
-
i run bf3 on ultra, no custom settings, completely ultra, and I never have dips. I run usually from 40-50 fps. stock clocks too.
-
in MP or SP? enduro issue only happens in MP, my SP runs smooth as well.
-
no man
read my other posts and You find many negative information I post
I dont like this laptop because heat, noise, keyboard. So far I dont have problems in BF3. -
looks like every laptop is different, some peoples have problem with heat, other dont, some have problem with games, other dont ,some peoples cant load drivers ,other dont etc -
Yeah can anyone post an afterburner graph showing utilization please?
-
I'm Also interrested in those graphs. But if so you still can configure the settings to get steady 60 fps which would be possible on a 7970m on everything high I belive. Thats what I wanted an unable to achieve with no driver...When you lower your settings you'll get the same fps with lower utilization..
-
It could be that one of the graphics settings are causing dips. Try messing around and seeing what you can disable. Ambient occlusion, shadows, something that isn't always going to be rendered but that can be taxing on your system when changes occur.
-
nope, no matter what settings (you can even set everything to low) it will run just the same. its an enduro issue as the same is true on alienware when it has enduro enabled.
-
check my sig benchmarks, theres a youtube video of bf3 multiplayer i made with the specs in my sig. should be about similar i think.
It's very playable, but I thought the fps difference between ultra and high would be bigger which isn't. It's about average 45-50 fps on ultra on that multiplayer map with alot of people in it.
Got Fraps visble in the video and recorded with camera so it won't cause performancedrops. Just check it out -
yep, i wish i had gone for a 680m myself now..

Nice fps though. Glad I put off ordering a 7970 when the issues starting showing up. Might as well wait and see if the 680 has less issues. If it doesn't it will be worth the price difference to me. -
he has FXAA turned down, which does not affect fps at all. In fact FXAA should be excluded from ultra as turning it on actually decreases quality by blurring detail.
-
AlwaysSearching Notebook Evangelist
Check nvidia bf3 guide for a chart on aa performance impact.
It also looked like motion blur or something else was off. I couldnt easily tell. -
No, he has MSAA on 4x and FXAA on High. Not sure why he has FXAA on when he has MSAA on since that is degrading the image quality, but whatever. Motion blur is on.
The video quality is fine if you put it on 1080p. He is actually using the ultra preset, but it shows as custom because he turned FXAA on. -
@ Blauwhelmje: good for you that your 680 runs nicely
But: cant anyone show us proof that they dont have any utilization issues with their 7970? i mean afterburner would probably be open anyways so i dont see why nobody can show us that graph... -
While I'm playing I'm lowering settings to give somewhat of an idea on how much it increases in fps.
I noticed turning off the bloom also gives a pretty high fps boost, and since bloom in an fps is nothing to be wanted when going for visbility... -
Ok i have basically broken it down to this:
I payed 1820$ for my p150em with a 7970m&3720
1. If i were to return it and get a 680m with a 3610qm instead i would only pay 1900$
2. an alienware m17x w/7970&3610 costs 2150$ but no ssd available (too expensive and i have to take a primary hdd)
should i wait for better drivers keeping in mind bf3 mp might be unplayable for up to a half a year, or go with the 680 which hasnt got any optimus issues, OR go with the m17x?
what do you guys think? i was tending to alienware but now im looking at the 680.... -
I'm coming for an m17x r2 and I must say I had less problems getting this clevo 170em to work descent then the alienware. I dno how things go with the latest gen 4 of the m17x though.
As long as you're not going for an sli/xfire setup, I think the clevo/sager is just fine. If you want to go dual gpu's, the m18x r2 would be best. Or look up some info about the panther 2.0(if im not mistaking). I like the cold material handrests(dno how to call it exactly) and the basic look about the p170em. . The m17x r2's 1920*1200 screen was slightly better then my current one, but i got the matte screen which is alot better for me considering I use the laptop alot outside or near windows.
As far as the 3720 vs 3610 cpu's have an influence on both card's performance, I have no idea but if you're having problems with playing bf3 and want to spend the least possible, I'd go for the 3610qm and 680m, or just keep the 3720qm and get the 680m.
What u should ask urself: what laptop looks the best to me? all the other factors are basicly the same really. -
im coming from an m15x and was pretty impressed with alienware systems, a bit bulky perhaps but otherwise really good. im not interested in a SLI or XFire Setup atm.
The fact that the same specced M17x is 550$ expensiver than my current rig (sig) bugs me, so ill probably stick with clevo. Anyone else have opinions/advice? -
Mine works great! Getting between 50-100fps on high, 1080p. No crashes. Put about 15 hours through it already. Also a lot of it played over 4g lte cell phone connection.

So everything is set as you mention. Awesome fps @ ultra.
@Blauwhelmje
Did you happen to notice temps while playing? -
-
can you upload a video or your afterburner graph showing GPU utilization? I have also tried everything, including reinstalling windows 4 times now, so I am pretty sure this is a design fault of enduro.
If you can prove this otherwise I would be very happy. -
Temps are max 72c for gpu and 69c for cpu. Fans seem to be medium.

added a short video of a Close quarters map (don't know the name). on Ultra.
Bf3 CQ map testing fps on clevo p170em/sager np9170 with 680m(stock) - YouTube added in sig) -
Here you go. 12.6 drivers. Full 64p server.

ok, looks like you are in the same boat as everyone else then, your utilization is pretty low too. If you ran BF3 single player you'd have near constant 99%, which is what it should be at.
-
-
it works fine for me too and its definitely playable on ultra, but neither me or you are getting the fps 7970m should be producing. having come from a 6970m i was expecting a massive jump in fps as on paper 7970m is nearly twice as fast, but right now in some scenes i get lower fps than with my 6970m.
-
...tapatalk... -
.. and even if it was then CPU bottleneck would affect both alienware 7970m cards and 680m the same. At the moment only clevo EM series 7970m are affected.
BF3 Multiplayer working normal for anybody?
