EDIT: I'll put the short version firstt- Basically everytime I try to run the HOTKEY drivers it tells me that it has stopped working.

    The long version:

If anyone could help me with this problem that has been annoying me for the past 7 months it would be greatly appreciated.
I have a Clevo P150sm laptop. Windows 7 Home SP1. It came with drivers (hotkey) that were supposed to control the backlit keyboard already installed(various colours, brightness etc). This didn't work out of the box. I then downloaded and installed some custom backlight keyboard software designed for the Clevo's. Link to it here:

Backlight Controller with LightFX | clevomods

This actually worked, the program ran fine and I was able to change the colours etc.. But only for about a week, then it stopped working again. I simply couldn't figure out what was wrong. I tried the latest Clevo drivers and a reinstall of the custom software and I got a Windows message saying this:

"Exception caught: the type initializer for #$@@#@% threw an exception. Runtime terminating (0) true InnerException: System.InvalidOperationExeptopm: Cannot open OutLLog on machine.. Windows has not provided an error code--> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception. The interface is unknown ---End of inner exception---"

and it goes on like that...

That was a few months ago. Recently I tried to install the latest hotkey drivers released by Clevo. They are actually for the Clevo P150sm-A the latest model, but I though what the hell. But am again getting an Windows error message "HKeyTray has stopped working."
Under the details of the message it says

    "C:\Users\Horize\AppData\Local\Temp\WER702.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml C:\Users\Horize\AppData\Local\Temp\WER1F34.tmp.appcompat.txt C:\Users\Horize\AppData\Local\Temp\WER1F83.tmp.mdmp"

As you can see I have no idea what this means. The backlit keyboard itself does work because its glowing blue but I can't change the colour or adjust the brightness as I'm supposed to be able too. If anyone can shed any light on this matter or even better yet, solve it it would mean a hell of a lot because its been bugging me for so long, and I spent too much on the damn thing to have it annoy me this much.
    Thanks in advance.

Oh one more bit of information that I'm not sure is relevant or not but I'll include it. When I bought the laptop the online shop that I bought it from accidentally sent me the laptop without either of the hard drives in (SSD and normal). They apologised and sent out the hard drives the next day and Windows 7 was pre-installed on the SSD so that when I turned the computer on for the first time it didn't need me to install it.
Again not sure if that's relevant but hope it helps anyone willing to give the problem a shot a solving it. Thanks again.

Try downloading the latest set for your model and make sure you get the windows 7 one.

Hi mate, yeah I've done that. Still getting the same response:

    "HKTray has stopped working"

    In show details it says

    "C:\Users\Horize\AppData\Local\Temp\WER702.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
    C:\Users\Horize\AppData\Local\Temp\WER1F34.tmp.appcompat.txt
    C:\Users\Horize\AppData\Local\Temp\WER1F83.tmp.mdmp"

Any other suggestions, I am desperate at this point.

I think the problem is the installation because everytime I install the driver it tells me there was an error and asks if I want to perform it again using "recommended settings". I then performs the installation and asks me if I want to overwrite the files, I click yes and it finishes without a hitch. But somethings telling me that the problem is occurring here. The reason I think this is that when I tried using the custom backlit keyboard software and I got the really long message I mentioned in my first post I reported it to the maker of said software and he told me that the message was basically telling me that HOTKEY wasn't installed properly or it couldn't find it on my system.

theres been reports in the past that if a driver is loaded out of order then it can cause conflicts.

this is the order they should have been loaded but the only way to see if this is the problem is to do a OS install from new and start again.

So is there no possible way for me to rectify this if the problem is the load out order without doing a wipe and fresh reinstall of the OS? I can't say, uninstall all the drivers, download them and reinstall them again in said order? It sucks cause they didnt even send me the driver disk.

did you have a operating system pre loaded by the supplier. if so you should have got the OS disc and a driver disc supplied with your order.
i would contact them and ask for a driver disc.

if it does turn out to be the order they were loaded i dont think reloading the drivers in the correct order would help as they need to be loaded on a clean OS with all the many reboots to load them properly.

i had a small problem with my backlit software as there was no X to close the program and even a update wouldnt work. im not too bothered as all i have to do is ctrl alt del to close it and i dont change the colours now so dont need to use it.

Yeah, the online shop I bought it from actually forgot to but the hard drives in when they sent me the laptop (don't know how that happens) so they sent out the SSD and the mass drive afterwards. I had to install both harddrives myself but Windows 7 and the drivers were preinstalled on the SSD and it worked straight away so there is no way for me to know what order they were installed. Also I was in Australia when I got the laptop and I'm living in Europe now so getting in touch with the supplier isn't really an option.
I know it's not really a big deal not being able to control the backlight but it bugs the hell out of me that I was able to do it for about a week and now I'm not. I'm seriously considering doing a reinstall if that's my only option. If I went this route and I can't find my Windows or the drivers disc what are my options. I'm actually sure they did provide them but I left a lot of things in a friends apartment in Australia so they're probably there. Would I be able to get an image of Windows? Would that be legal?

hotkey needs .NET 4.5. Sometimes the installation gets corrupted. Download the latest library from Microsoft, uninstall your 4.5 installation (if you currently have one) and install the one you downloaded

Sigh, I genuinely thought that this would work. Still the exact same problem. Tried 4.5 and 4.5.2.
Whenever I open Hotkey it tells me "HKTray has stopped working" and whenever I try the Backlight Mod it still comes up with that weird message effectively telling me that it can't find Hotkey. I don't think that this would annoy me so much if it hadn't at one stage worked but because I've had it working I really want it running again.

If you have any other ideas it would be really appreciated but thanks for your answers already too, I know you don't have to take time out of your day to read my complaints.

Is it possible that another program is preventing Hotkey from running correctly?

i did a format and fresh install just cause of a corrupt hotkey/net framework issue i was having.

found absolutely zero help here, or online for it.
good new is after 3 days of installs, my laptop back to normal and working great... thank goodness.

Yea, sadly it's flakey. If you ever do tweak the hotkey, you have to do a complete uninstall of the hotkey application then install it from scratch.

If you just re-install it (for whatever reason) seems to corrupt stuff in the install of itself. No idea why.

Ok thanks guys. It's annoying as hell but I suppose there isn't much I can do short of a clean OS install. Think I might wait it out till Windows 9 and if that looks any good, just do the format then.

    Thanks again for everyone's input.

Might as well do the reformat now. Its a good idea to do one every 6 months to a year just to get every thing cleaned up and get overall quicker performance.
