    Hi all,

**First, sorry for language mistakes, i'm not native english speaker**
**Second, this is NOT a thread to complain about Malibal. These guys surely do great job, and tried to be helpful so far. I do not post a thread on their own forum beacuse it is not working, and that i would really appreciate to have a quick help from the community (not having to wait the malibal forum to be UP) **

I received my laptop in early July (had to wait for "the problem with the 2nd 7970 shippment" to be solved). I put my own SSD (new, 256 Crucial M4) inside, installed the Windows7 and then installed all the drivers from the DVD.
I had no backlit after installing all drivers. However, in the "Control center", the backlit keyboard icon appearance correctly changes when i'm turning ON/OFF backlit using Fn+.. keys (or by clicking on the icon). In the ControlCenter/BacklitKeyboard, "Custom" is the only mode showing colors on the keyboard picture. All keys on the keyboard were working fine, everything was "responsive" except the backlit.

I sent tickets to Malibal and tried everything they asked. I tried to reseat the keyboard (few screws to remove, 2 cables to reseat). I tried to repair, uninstall/reinstall the Hotkey AP driver, to format-reinstall entirely windows, and it didn't work.

Malibal then sent me a replacement keyboard. I received this keyboard yesterday, I removed the "old" keyboard and seat the replacement keyboard and i have the exact same problem, with all keys being responsive on the keyboard but without the backlit. I tried again the uninstall/reinstall the hotkey driver but still nothing.

    My questions:
Have you heard of somebody having the same issue?
I think the problem is not on the keyboard (i think Malibal is serious enough to not send 2 defective keyboards), but i only have "base" knowledge and can't find where is the issue by myself. It is possible there is a problem in the BIOS (i changed nothing in it)? a problem coming from the SSD (all seems to be ok, i run many programs installed on it)? I often have a message "you have to reboot to have UAC enabled" after installing the hotkey driver, is it possible that the problem comes from the User Account Control?
    Any other idea?

    Thanks for any help,

    Pimpim

The backlight never functioned. I reseated the keyboard only because Malibal staff asked me to try that for making the backlight working well.
(I haven't seen any light behind the keyboard so far, but other lights on the laptop -caps, ver num etc.- work fine)

OK, remove the bezel above the keyboard, unscrew the five screws from the keyboard. Look at the whether a small band signal (pin 12) is mounted in the slot just above the black veneer on the motherboard (correctly), or in a narrow slit above (incorrectly).

I'm not sure to understand "black veneer on the motherboard (correctly), or in a narrow slit above (incorrectly)."
Here is a picture for the small keyboard cable (i'm in front of the keyboard and i just lift the top of the keyboard)

You have a signal ribbon mounted on the opposite.

bonnie.clyde .... i love you so much *-*. It works now.

I'm stupid, i kept the same face for the ribbon in front of me. It was initially mounted on the opposite, and i kept this way to mount the ribbon every time i reseated. i tried to gently push the ribbon as far as possible, but i didn't think about changing the ribbon face.

bonnie.clyde, you solved a few weeks old problem in few minutes.
Thank you so much (and thank also to the whole NBR community for the amount of useful topics in the forum)

I spent so many hours on reinstalling things and looking on forums for a solution, for such a small problem.....it's unbelievable.
I should have made a thread earlier, it is very helpful for people like me with basic knowledge ^^
    Thanks again bonnie.clyde

The keyboard has two cables, a larger more centrally positioned one and a smaller one towards the edge.

The larger one is used for data (key strokes and the like) and the small one is used for powering the LEDs and changing their colour.

If the LEDs do not come on, there is likely to do with the smaller cable to the edge.
