    Hey All!

I just purchased a new NP8275 for learning game design, animation, and programming. It’s a 17.3” screen which backpacks for this size seem to be hard to come by(atleast for quality ones)

I’m looking for a high quality backpack that is weatherproof, waterproof, or water resistant as I live in Seattle and will be walking to and from the library every day during winter so rain/snow will be a thing. I’d like an actual backpack rather than one with wheels or a brief case style as I prefer having the weight distributed across the shoulders rather than one arm/shoulder. I’ll also have books in my back as well so it has to have some good space.

Anyone have any suggestions that would suit me?

    Kind Regards

I'd highly recommend the Targus XL from using it. The laptop compartment easily stores my 17.3 NP8295 (funny, I purchased mine for the same reason as you) and its giant power , with room to spare for more cables such as my mouse. The main storage compartment is also huge and I use it to store several supplies such as my tablet, books for classes, and a chunky bag of art supplies when needed. Great bag overall.

    Hey! Thanks for that response!

How would you feel about taking the Targus XL out into the rain with your laptop in rain/snow? My biggest concern is being trapped at the library heading home and having it down rain! Cant risk loosing a laptop due to water:\

The material itself is decently waterproof from some "accidental" tests I've had. As for actual rain, well, I'm in Texas so I don't get to test drive its rain resistance that much. Though I have taken a 15inch in a much older worse material Targus laptop bag through rain before and the inside would be dry clean, so Targus doesn't seem to disappoint in that area. I would feel pretty comfortable taking out in the rain if I need to cross a distance. There's a double material kind of effect inside the bag compartments where you have the outside skin, an air pocket, then a completely different inside skin which I would imagine greatly helps the water resistance aspect. I can't really comment on the snow as I've never tried it.

Another idea to look into is buying a sleeve for your laptop, zipper or otherwise. Those can offer even more protection just in-case.

    Good luck with your search!

I'd recommend a Slappa backpack. I'm using M.A.S.K. TRANSIT and I think it's worth the price. The build quality is great and the capacity is more than enough. Also the laptop compartment is one of the best I've seen and makes me confident that my NP9150 is properly protected :D

I am using targus xl for my np8275. I am very happy with it. I am actually using it in Seattle. It should be ok for drizzle but not when it pours. I think it should be ok for Seattle snow also haven't tried though

Speak of the devil, it started raining yesterday while I was out. Just as sam said, it'll hold up well under a drizzle or medium rain but I wouldnt risk it in a downpour with any kind of backpack honestly.

I am personally a big fan of Swiss laptop backpacks and they do make waterproof bags. I currently do not own a waterproof one, but now that I moved back to Florida and it seems to rain a lot here I might be picking one of these up for myself.
