I received my np9261 a scant few hours ago. It booted up fine and after a rather lengthy first-time boot up of Vista Premium 64-bit, the cpu fan kicked in and basically started screaming. Turns out the fan is scraping against the fan case...I'm guessing the magnetic bearing has weakened or something and is not strong enough to keep the fan all the way up. It ceases to scrape if I hold the laptop at a bit of an angle. I took it apart, looked at it, and the spring inside is a little stretchy but otherwise ok.
Any ideas? I just paid close to 3 grand for a computer and my experience is being ruined by a $10 part. Very, very annoying. I'm sure XoticPC/Sager are not to blame, the thing likely got bumped about in shipping. I called XoticPC tech support but they had no clue. They had a hard time understanding that the fan in question was MAGNETIC and not a single unit. They are going to send me a new fan (and I really, REALLY hope they send the right one), but it's a little late. I got this thing over-nighted since I leave on deployment very soon...I may have a window of a week where I can get this fan delivered, if I'm lucky.
Overall, very disappointing and quite a sour experience. I'm sure once I get the fan replaced/fixed, I'll feel much better about my computer, but right now I'm so irritated I just needed to vent.
Anybody know anything about the fans in these Sagers? Is there a quick and easy fix, or do I really just need to replace the fan?

they are great ... first off did you make sure to tell them you are being deployed soon. make sure to tell them that (sager i mean call them directly is what i would do) im sure they will take care of you. as long as you gave them the serial number they will send you the right part they are the ones who build the systems after all.. its very easy to replace the fan unscrew the bottom plate usually either 2 or 4 screws holding the fan and unplug it replace in reverse. they sent me out a replacement keyboard and in in fl they are in cali.. they sent it ground but i had in in 4 days.. again make sure to tell them of you situation everyone at sager i spoke with was awesome to deal with

I went through XoticPC tech support, not Sager. Maybe I'll give them a try tomorrow...I'm getting a little desperate, I may just see if I can replace it on my own.

They should be able to do next-day delivery for you if you specify your situation.

Thanks. -
Talked to them, gave them an address, said they can't overnight it, 3-4 days. Sucks. Now I'm really irritated. XoticPC was pretty helpful though, said they would contact Sager and speed up the shipping.

Hope it all goes well for you.
It should though. -
is it possible you have a ups account or know someone who does? then maybe they can send it out overnight and bill your ups account i know it would cost but it may help time wise.
