What format are the movies you are watching? MPEG, AVI, DIVX, XVID? What program are you using to play them with and what codecs have you downloaded to help play them? Need a little more information than what you have provided.

A great all around video player I have been using for many years is VLC. Give it a try and see how works.

    Pop a high def dvd.

When you are watching an Virtualy Encoded video so to speak, it drastically ****s the quality, like digital copies of movies are always IMO been ****.

Just compare, pop in a high def dvd or even standard and play it then compare it to any other digital video you have. Also format is important, usually .AVI is the highest quality with XVID and DIVX

ffdshow codec should solve all your video wows, use the default installation. Make sure that you are at native DPI resolution settings. Regardless of the player that you use, video quality will never be better than the original file quality, but should be at least as good. The newest H264 compression format has the best file size to video quality ratio.
