Just recently discovered your forum and website - amazing!

I'd like to build my own laptop but I am having extreme difficulty locating companies in the UK willing to sell barebone systems.

I contacted Clevo (they only have a service centre in the UK) and they gave me Rock and Evesham as resellers of theirs. I emphasised that I wanted to buy a barebone system. When I rang these companied they said they only sell their own systems not barebone.

    The same with Arima.

Is the barebone laptop market in the UK non-existant (ie sown up by small computer companies that wont sell barebones?)

Looking forward to hearing your views!

    Best wishes
    Harry

I am unaware of barebone sellers for Clevo's in the UK.

You can contact RJtech.com and see how much it costs to ship the barebone of your choice over.

I know you want to build your own laptop, but Novatech sell Clevo laptops branded as their own.

I would give them a try, you can buy them without Windows. I know it's not a barebones, but it's something.

Maybe you could ring them, they are pretty good in support!

Novatech offer the M570RU but with "any memory" and "any HDD" and will not sell to me without either; nor will they replace "any brand" with, for instance Kingston / Corsair RAM or a specified HDD.

Rock also sell this model with branded (known) memory and HDD but at top-whack starting from £1,600. By the way they say "HD DVD ROM" what is HD about a normal DVD ROM as specified in the Clevo technical specs. Can you fit any DVD in the bay?

Rock is the first OEM other than Toshiba to make the HD DVD-ROM/DVD-RW drive standard.

it was first implemented into the Clevo M570RU... which is great... because like I have been saying before, the HD-DVD and Blu-ray drives are using standard IC's to fit into standard optical drive bays.

HD-DVD is the new standard in DVD for full HD (1080p) video playback... its the direct competitor to the Blu-Ray format.
