HI, I am thinking about getting a barebones d901c from RJtech.

But U know I think it might be better to get a DELL m1730 cuz of Part availabiltiy.

you can get hundreds of Dell video cards and parts easily on ebay and other places.

Try to find 1 video card FOR clevo/sager. and you will be not able to find one. even rjtech sells them but they say for d900k not d900c. and plus they cost way too much without warranty.

    so riddle me this:

where on earth are we suppostu get the cards from???

    b-sides ordering with new machine.?

    thanks

Dell cards that are available are proprietary ones from their previous models... and only for them... not for the XPS M1730... using a different and new proprietary module... which you will not find on eBay.

The new Clevo's with MXM-IV have their cards available through any major Clevo vendor/reseller (Sager, Pro-Star, Eurocom, etc...). They do not put it on sites usually since these items are quite costly (and somewhat technically advanced for average consumers).... so you can easily contact any of them to inquire about getting a single card.

I would recommend to wait for the 8800M GTX coming out in December (ships out around mid-late of the month).

    Check out the following sites:
    - www.pcmicroworks.com (will give free upgrade to 8800M when its available)
    - www.XoticPC.com (can order your notebook now, get it built, and they will hold it until the 8800M become available for it)
    - www.powernotebooks.com (same as XoticPC)

P.S. RJtech gets their Clevo barebones through Sager. ;)

    Thanks for the reply

there is an abundance of DELL CARDS. just wait. after a while you will be able to get the DELL SLI modules on ebay as well.

    I myself have 2x 7900gtx cards a fx2500 card and a 7900gs and a fx1400 card.

All I said was You can easily obtain Dell cards.

Clevo cards on the other hand aren't so easy to get.

and the few who do have them charge 10 arms and 5 legs.

I wanted to know of PLACES on the net or otherwise where one can PURCHASE Clevo CARDS. I hope there is places.

I built my XPS from scratch. Litterally Spare parts. I have enough parts to build 3 xps notebooks now.

I am versed in Tech work as it's my trade.

The reason I am saying is I really like the d901c. but I have had clevo before and they are hard to get parts for.

Getting a barebones d901C might be a bad idea.

the M1730 will be easy to get parts for on the otherhand. and not cut-throat prices. (eventually)

though I am for sure leaning towards the d901c.

As long as I can get parts for it.

I want to have full controll over my notebook. fixing it (doing my own warranties, and building it. (every aspect.)

Like my m1710, there is literally hundreds of places to obtain parts for it.

I have enough parts to last me 10 years of use out of it, keeping it in tip/top shape.

I want a notebook like that. if it breaks, fix it easily yourself

I know all those places you said.

BAREBONES FROM RJTECH is the only way I will ever go.

I can get all the parts dirt cheap for it from my suppliers.

the Video cards on the other HAND are the only thing standing between the d901c and the M1730. cuz I know the m1730 you will EASILY be able to Upgrade the SLI module as it is only 1 card with 2 chips on it.

Dell will sell it from spare parts and it will EASILY be able to be purchased on ebay.

If the D901C becomes like that. then I will jump on it.

I suppose I will wait until Jan, and see where the chips FALL.

    thanks again.

Again, contacting Clevo vendors/distributors is best because they are reputable.. rather than dealing with eBay and such.

Dell might have a problem with the M1730 since the modules are not standard... but if you can find those modules on eBay thats fine.... but I do not always trust spare parts that are used (unless if the seller has a high rep)

I agree with the ebay statement.

Dell has Always had non-standard Cards. the reason there is always an abundance is that Dell is world-Wide and there is alot of putters out there.

I am most definently going with Clevo.

I just am worried that I get the Barebones Puter and not be able to get a Vid Card.

    again.

    thanks Gophn. muchos gracias.
