So I just got a Sager 8170 from Xoticpc yesterday, and overall I really like it. However, I had it on battery for the first time today, and I noticed that the battery icon doesn't tell you the estimated time remaining, just a percentage of battery left. This is different from all the other laptops I have seen and I was just curious if your laptops are the same? Is there a work-around?

    Thanks to all

and sorry for the weird username, Haven't gotten around to changing it yet.

Yup thats because the information that the Clevo controller presents doesn't allow windows to figure out a time remaining. They all do that.. So there is no workaround.

Think it's an issue with the controller, or just what the driver reports? If the controller reports the remaining battery, and it must be able to identify the current consumption rate - it would be a simple calculation to list a 'time remaining' (even if it changes all the time, like a Windows time remaining in a file transfer).

Of course, it should also be pretty easy for you to get used to the 'normal' behavior of your machine, and be able to quickly calculate in your head (normally 2 hours gaming time, 40% remaining...little under an hour left).

Thanks guys. Not really a deal breaker, just kinda strange that a laptop maker would use a control chip that doesn't support that feature.

I tried the task bar icon thing recommended by Ryan and so far it's working pretty well for me. Thanks for the recommendation.
