Can someone help with this problem? The battery on my SagerD27ES notebook lasts maybe (if I'm lucky) 10 minutes. The control panel will show that it's 100% charged and when it gets to about 95% it shuts the computer down. The notebook is about 6 years old and the battery has been rarely used (even rarer these days). I'd hate to invest in a new battery and not have it solve the problem, which seems likely. Thanks!

Definitely sounds like a battery at the end of its life (or beyond). Laptop batteries will only last a few years, even with the best of care, and will always lose performance. I'm surprised you are getting 10 minutes on your battery.
Basic battery care calls for using the battery every once in a while. When you do use it, you will want to run it all the way down (or at least until the low battery alarm sounds.) If you are not going to use the battery for a while, normally its good practice to run it down to 50% capacity and remove it from the computer.
If the rest of the laptop is still in good working order and it still suits your needs, then a new battery would be a good investment. -
thank you for the help! I'll try your advice.
