I recently got this fantastic laptop, and I am in love with it. However there is one problem.

The battery life is fine when using it, lasts a couple hours which is a lot longer than my old laptop.

However when putting my computer to sleep at 100% battery life, it will be dead in about 6 hours. I know the battery should drain a bit when sleeping but not 100% to 0% in only a couple hours.

I thought it was a problem with sleep, so I also tried hibernation as well. Same thing happened, battery died.

Here's what HWMonitor displays about my battery:

How long have you had the notebook for and how long would you say you would have used the notebook with the battery in?

Does the laptop's battery also drain completely if you leave it turned off and unplugged for 6 hours?

If it does, then it's probably an issue with the battery; if it doesn't, then it sounds like more of a driver or software issue (like sleeping or hibernation isn't working properly).

why not just turn it off at night and then the battery wont drain.
its recommended to use battery only on the move and have it plugged in the rest of the time. if you leave it plugged in for long periods of time then remove the battery from the base with a 40% charged and it should last for years.

It definitely should not die while in hibernate. Hibernation shouldn't use any battery life at all, actually because it saves the current state to the hard disk.

Remove the battery and see if it drains more than 0.3% in 24h. If it does, ask for replacement. If it doesn't, it's more likely the laptop.

I will try that later tonight and see what happens.

I move the laptop over to my bed, for some late night work and emails before putting it to sleep, and going to sleep myself.

    That was my understanding too...

There is a little logitech receiver for my wireless mouse. Could that cause the problem?

EDIT: While testing the pulling the battery out and seeing if it drains, i stumbled upon a new problem. If the computer is turned off, put to sleep, or put to hibernation. Then the AC is unplugged, it won't turn back on with just the battery. It has to be plugged into the AC for it to turn back on. Is that supposed to happen? I think that may account for some of the times i thought the battery was dead.

    hi mate.
nope that sounds like a dodgy battery then as my 4 year old m860tu still turns on using battery.
my original battery was replaced just short of a year as it wasnt holding a charge and was running on 25% after 11 months.
the new battery was replaced under its 1 year warranty (depends on reseller) and 3 years later its still holding 98% charge. i remove it when i know im not going to be using battery for long periods of time.

if i were you i would download Battery Care to monitor your batterys charge and secondly contact your reseller to see if they can replace it as long as they cover the battery for 1 year.

Nope not normal. Could be a bad battery. (high internal resistance) Your battery looks slightly suspicious to me as it's shown as being 3% under designed capacity when you just got it brand new. But that's not 100% conclusive.

When your transition your laptop from AC mains to just battery while it's on; you say it stays on for about 2h. During this time, does your battery power level indicator gradually decrease to ~20% or is there a sudden drop?
