Hi, I just got my NP5165 and noticed that the batterylife was much shorter than expected, and in batterybar and BatteryMon it says that the battery wear level is 21%, and I only charged the laptop once.

Design Capatcity: 62160 mWh (5650 mAh)
Full charge capacity: 49065 mWh (4460 mAh)

How much battery wear is there on new laptops? How many percent of battery wear to consider contacting reseller for new battery?

    Thanks. :)

You should not have more than 10% battery wear in a year, get a replacement if it`s over that.

Have you tried to calibrate the battery, just run the notebook battery down until you get a low battery warning, then boot the notebook into the bios and leave it till it shut down automatically when the battery runs out, then fully recharge with the notebook turned off.

You might need to give it a few days for that software to be correctly calibrated. That said, you shouldn't have more than a percent or two of battery wear new out of the box. (That percent or two is often due to the battery not quite meeting specs, but being close enough- it can also work 1 to 2 percent the other way as well).

It looks like from what you posted that you may have a defective battery, assuming the calibration doesn't fix it. I'd contact your seller in a few days if it's not fixed :)

    Thanks guys.
So I just calibrated the battery, and the battery wear went from 17% to 11%. I will watch it for the next days and see if it goes further down, but it seems kinda high still. Will it help calibrating the battery again? I checked the battery wear on a g72gx laptop I bought over a year ago and the battery wear on that one is at 3%.

You can try calibrating it again, or at least letting it run for a few days to see if the battery bar adjusts correctly. If it's not any better in a few days time, I'd check about getting a new battery :)

It has been over a week now and it's pretty weird because the battery wear level changes every time the battery runs out and I have to charge it again.

One time it said 17%, another time 13%, and when I calibrated the battery in the beginning I got 11%, and it's back to 17% now. So it seems like this battery wear level is pretty unaccurate on the Np5165 model. What's funny is that on my other laptops I've owned the battery wear level displayed in programs never really went over 5%, even after several months, so it seems odd that it is this high and changes so much on my NP5165.

Does anyone know why the NP5165 does not display how many minutes of battery life is left when on battery? It only says how many percent is left. It can't be due to optimus, because my M11X displays battery life left in minutes and percent. Downloading programs like BatteryBar to check battery life also does not work well. When the laptop is at full load batterybar shows 2.5 hours, and when on UMA mode also says 2.5 hours. Other programs does pretty much the same thing.¨

I contacted the retailer and was told that battery wear level is very unaccurate and it not reliable on programs., and battery replacements were only needed if battery time suddently went down to 30 minutes. Guess I'll just accept it, although I know I get worse battery life than most NP5165 users do, as I have done several tests, where I was playing starcraft 2 and battery lasted for 1 hour 5 minutes.
