Hello,
I've been hearing that Sager is reputed for bad build quality. Apparently, certain things are glued and not screwed in. Lots of people seems to be complaining about strange sounds from speaker jacks, and broken laptop parts and such. I really need to know if the Sager laptop I might be owning will be able to handle my day to day transportations and the accidental hit.... Can anyone confirm this, or all I've been hearing is lies ? How long should a Sager laptop last before it stops working ?
Thanks
-
Not sure how long it's going to last but my Sager is built very solid. I have no complaints with it.

Sound like good news to me, some friends of mine told me about that and showed some website. Though I didn't beleive them, I decided to ask here just in case.
Thanks.... -
Hi. May I ask if they are referring to sager the company for retail or if they mean the actual clevo/sager barebones unit? Thanks

I owned a Sager NP8600. It was 11+ years old. I upgraded it a few years ago with Win98Se, a larger HD, more mem, and a faster processor. Never gave me a day of trouble. The only blemish is that the paint wore off the corners.
I gave it away last month.
I also own a Dell Inspiron 8100. Bought it in '01. It's like an old Ford. I'm constantly buying parts for it off ebay and other places. Sure, some of those parts are upgrades. But some of those parts are replacements. -
I recently received my sager NP2090 and must say I love it. great computer that feels and looks solid. This is also my first one, but based off research and field testing I did at Best Buy, Circuit City and Office depot, I can say this laptop is very sturdy and solid. Some of those other screens I looked at and opened/closed I thought the screen would fall off. Not so with this one here. Also based off reseller rating sites and the better business buerea, I must say I am most happy buying from xoticpc.com and do not regret it at all. I was a little nervous being a first time buyer from a little known online site but Justin and crew at Xotic helped out and I have zero regrets. you really cannot go wrong with a Sager from XoticPC.com.

I don't know about the other models but I have a Clevo M570U (Sager 5760 equivalent) and the build quality is excellent. One of my friends even commented on the build quality compared to his Acer notebook and how mine was more sturdy.
It's approx 1 year old now and I haven't had any problems at all. I'm quite heavy handed typing on the keyboard and it is still fine with no keyboard flex.
If I had my time again I would wouldn't think twice about purchasing the same notebook.

No problems here

ehmm...... keyword ACER ......gateway and acer, not so good quality. unless you can get it real cheap say $300 bucks then damn good for price. -
Well to add my 2 cents. Look around here and read, go back months... usually, what you see on hardware forums are only the problems, and people whining about them. The things go with ilounge for ipods, 1src for Palms, etc...
BUT NOT HERE! (Mostly) Only good things are said about these laptops. Pff it's probably a pal that's sold to Dell (ermm) or HP that said that. I only know that 6 years ago I had a Compaq that was falling apart after 2 years.
My 5760 is still rock solid after more than a year, and I carry it everyday to work (in multiple locations). The screen hinges are still top notch, and still stiff.
plus, when you buy one of these from a smaller reseller (compared to HP, or Dell), you ARE someone when it comes to support. You're not a number when it come to warranty. Look on threads about Xoptic or PowerNotebooks or Eurocom in canada (yeah, I like to plug them)... -
^^^ hence the reason i spent near 750$ more to get the sager over the dell 1720...

Well, everything so far I heard about Sager and read on forums is great. I ordered Sager NP5790 from xoticpc.com, and I have to say that theres customer service is great. I called them 15 times one day with different questions and Justin answered all of them. There wasnt a time when someone didnt pick up a phone.

Typing "I hate Mother Theresa" on a google search engine brought back 10 times as many results as "I hate Sager" on the same search engine. Looking over a few of them on the first page there are people that think she is possessed by the devil, the incarnation of evil, a fraud, and many more ridiculous conspiracy theories, mostly from people that likely never met her.
Best way to get credible information is to look at unbiased reviews or ask people that have owned them about their experience with them and the build quality. I have owned a few laptops over the years and my current Sager NP2090 was the best out of the group without a doubt. -
*Building off this topic
I am currently looking for a new laptop for college. Its going to be used for gaming and for regular college stuff (heavy in the sciences/math, specifically meteorology) My friend gave me a link to this page regarding a notebook manufacturer (Sager) for more information because I have never heard of Sager before.
Now I am not totally opposed to buying from a brand I know nothing about. I visited the site and looked at the options to customize etc. and quite honestly, it was a VERY nice experience. The options told me and whited out options that I could not have based on other components. For example, it would not let me select 4 Gigs RAM unless I chose vista with a 64 bit system. Admittedly other sites that I have visited, don't do that. Which is a BIG plus.
My concern is....well I have never heard of it and I cant find a review for it from Consumer Reports. Are there any reputable sources other than this one for reviewing Sager type notebooks? I looked at some of the posters here, and it seems to me that they work for Sager and are therefor Biased. I am looking for totally UNBIASED data on Sager and whether or not it is reputable, a good platform, and good customer service.
From what I have heard so far, things look optimistic. I just need more information.
Looking at:
Vista Ultimate (for connectivity)
Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student
Intel 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo
4 Gigs RAM ? (looking for peak gaming performance coupled with computer model rendering)
Originally a 200-320 Gig hard drive (may go with very small interior with large exterior
17" monitor....wide screen would be nice
NVIDIA GeForce 7900M, 8600M GTX or maybe a 8800M (if price is right)
Thank you for your time. -
Check out this faq. its not entirely up to date but it will give you a great start on learning more about clevo notebooks!

Hope that helps. -
You may to look at the reseller to get more information than just at sager/clevo. I have had mine for 3 months now and I have to say it is the best I have I have bought. For what you are describing I would look at the 5792 model unless you have the extra to spend on the 9262.

I bought my lappy August of '06.
It's still running strong, even being overclocked (video) for more than a year. (I was actually able to UP the overclock 3 months ago. Like the vid card got broken in.)
I carry it back and forth to work 4 days a week (Invest in good protection!). While at work, it runs for nearly 11 hours at a time (10 hr shift). Occasionally I get to play random games at work. I'm also using it for gaming from home at least 5-10 hrs a week, in addition to general usage (web, email, etc).
I do not regret my purchase at all. -
I recieved my NP9261 on sunday so i haven't had it long enough to give a long term view but from what i have seen so far i'm very impressed, pictures will never do the build quality of this laptop any justice but if you get to see one in the flesh you not be disappointed.

My machine is in the sig. The build is very solid and well made, however the DVD/CD rom drive slot is very cheap which I was surprised about. Seems like the first thing that would break if you left it hanging out and knocked it against something. Also some people (including myself) experienced out of the box problems with the LCD display. The infamous foggy bands syndrome. A curable problem requiring a video cable replacement. As for transportation I'm not sure if it would withstand bumps or grinds as I mostly use it in one place.

the m7700 equivalent was the most crappy of sagers. plagued with mobo death over and over and over.
there is alot of revisions of it. just like the d90xc will be. but there was alot of problems on that unit. -
I've got an M570U, had it since August 06. The only real problem I have with it is that the power jack is unnecessarily flimsy - I lost it once a couple months into the laptop's life, and it's dying again now that I'm out of warranty.
Cosmetically and structurally, these laptops really need to be painted. The gray surface of the 570U attracts dirt like you would not believe, though the new models are darker and thus may be less so. Also, I've lost a hinge (the metal post holding it in place snapped) but it is the hinge that was usually down when my laptop was in my backpack, so that could very well be the cause.
Other than that stuff, rock solid. No complaints whatsoever. -
lol "other than that stuff" sounds like a lot of issues to me.. i like my system but imo i would not buy another one, not horrible but def not the quality everyone makes clevo/sager out to be..

I transport my D901C all the time and have had no issues with it. Open and close the display several times a day, no issues. Type on the keyboard all the time, no issues.
I've never had ANY laptop, compaq, gateway, dell, clevo (of the laptops I've personally owned) that the CD/DVD drive didn't 'feel' cheap. They all seem like they will break off to me. But the front loading ones are the ones I really hated. -
I have used mine 24/7 since buying except for when I carry it daily back and forth to work and when traveling around the world. I have not had an issue with it all. It is one of the better built laptops I have found and the power that is packed into this case is amazing. All of the features work and it has yet to complain to the abuse I put it through. It has been to 3 countries and even on convoys in Iraq. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get a high end DTR. The only problem I have had was a bad memory card when I purchased it. That was shipped the same day. So in my opinion and experience I give it very high recommendations to anyone looking for something in this category.
Also If you don't own a Sager/Clevo why are you commenting on it? -
I've had my 5790 since July (I preordered). I got it because I needed a computer that could handle some gaming and still be portable enough for me to take home with me over breaks. I haven't carried it around much yet, but I have had it on almost constantly since I got it, and it's running like a champ. No problems whatsoever. The cd tray does feel really flimsy, but I think it's no flimsier than any other cd tray, and the sturdiness of the rest of the laptop is what makes it seem so bad...
As far as transporting it goes, the case that came with it felt really flimsy to me, and I don't want to take another trip with it, so I ordered a new, much sturdier one. It hasn't arrived yet though.
Been hearing some bad things about Sager....
