I'm looking for a solid notebook to take with me for my first year of college in the fall. The Sager/Clevo "brand" (or what ever they term it i have no idea) has really interested me and they look like well made laptops. The only problem I have is I have no idea what makes a good Windows based laptop. The only laptops I have ever handled have been macbooks or macbook pros and I have never owned one. I do a fair amount of gaming and am looking forward to playing games like Bioshock and COD4 at high graphics, as my current pc plays CSS at around medium. I will not need to do much photoshop etc. as I will be an economics major and avoiding art like the plague.

I'd like it to be a 15.4in but if an amazing well priced 17in exists I'd go for that.

The Alienware m15x and the M860TU have interested me, but how reliable is the release date of around June for the M860TU?

Budget is around $2500-2800 including warranties and at least Vista Home Premium

Also where is the best place to get a Sager/Clevo?

release date probably not going to happen early in June thats for sure but I think we can expect it before school starts if thats what your into. I'd suggest xotic for the place to go. I haven't bought personally (yet) but they get the best reviews and seem to have the best customer service and pricing but dont forget powernotebooks as well, Donald and Justin have done lots of posting around here. hope that helps. I'm sure you'll also be able to get the M860TU for that price range fully equipped. If you can wait i'd say wait for the M860TU if only for the reviews so that you can compare the two when its actually out.

I just ordered a NP5793 from xotic pc 2 days ago. definitely one of the best customer service.

with your budget you should be able to get a nicely equipped 17". with a better graphics card even. but if portability and battery life becomes more a priority, you can't go wrong with any of xoticpc's or powernotebook's jfl92 offerings.

Nah I don't see the reason why I should hold. I can always buy a new laptop whenever I feel like it. ;)

I remember being able to do that...years later with a wife that likes to shop, a mortgage, my money tree outside my window dies, fell over and burned to the ground in fact. :(
